Most of the functionality for the Mezzmo Trailer Checker tool has been written and is working. I am expecting to post an initial release on GitHub next week. Below is a sample screen output checking 2 movies from the Mezzmo database, pulling the You Tube trailers (including skipping You Tube trailers which are no longer available and trimming the extra info from the names), inserting them into the Mezzmo database (and replacing the original entries), moving them to the local trailer folder location and recording the resolution and size of the new trailers in the trailer database. It will skip movies where it already finds local trailers and allows for processing the oldest movies or the newest movies in your Mezzmo library. Once you run the tool the Mezzmo Kodi addon will sync the new local trailers to all Kodi clients. The daily sync process with the Mezzmo server will automatically cleanup / delete any temporary files added to the Kodi video database due to trailer playback. Again this is all automatic.
With this capability to more quickly populate local trailers I have proposed a new feature for the Mezzmo Kodi addon called Mezzmo Movie Previews. This proposed new feature would give you a movie theater like experience where you can play up to a selected number of movie previews / trailers before playing the main movie. It would leverage the Mezzmo Kodi Addon Local Movie Trailers feature, be launched by the context menu and have a few option settings. In the next release of the Mezzmo Kodi addon I will add populating the main movie release dates into the addon trailer database to prepare for this new proposed Mezzmo Movie Previews feature.
Potential settings options:
- Number of previews to play (1-10)
- Previews from the year the movie was released to recreate the original movie experience
- Previews from the current year of movies in your library with a playcount of 0 for a modern previews experience of unwatched movies

While we were away, I completed the Mezzmo Trailer Checker, including most of a Wiki page. The latest release is version 0.0.6 and can be downloaded here.
The latest updates for v0.0.6 are:
• Added detection for trailer files where the video stream is missing or the resolution cannot properly be determined by ffmpeg.
• Fixed minor bug which could cause a movie file viewed with "show name" to have it also cleaned from the Mezzmo Trailer Checker database.
• Added the ability to fetch specific movie trailers by name or number

To catch up on things while we were away, updated versions of the Mezzmo Kodi addon
for both Kodi v18 (v1.1.8.5 / v1.1.8.6) and Kodi v19+ (v2.1.8.5 / v2.1.8.6) have been
posted on GitHub. These versions contain two minor enhancements to prepare for some
proposed new features and a fix for a minor bug introduced in the 1.1.8.5 / 2.1.8.5
versions.
*** Important Note ***
Support for Kodi 17 and below is being phased out. Version 1.1.8.1 is the last version
which will have full Kodi 17 and below support. There are no plans to drop support
for Kodi 18 anytime soon.

An updated version of the Mezzmo Trailer Checker (v0.0.7) has been uploaded to GitHub. This new
version has a few bug fixes and new features, including the ability to generate a report of all movies
in your Mezzmo database which do not have trailers.
v0.0.7 fixes and features:
• Improved trailer file name dupe checking when a movie has many trailers with
the same name after trimming extraneous You Tube characters.
• Added average trailer file size calculation to the stats output
• Added "CSV notrail" command to generate a listing of all movies in the Mezzmo
database which have no trailers.
• Increased movies per fetch maximum to 50 per run and You Tube trailer fetches
per day to 400.
• Code cleanup and additional Python level error checking

One of the key capabilities with the Mezzmo Kodi addon is duplicate content detection. I got a pleasant surprise to see it in action today. When looking through one of the sync log summaries this morning I saw this:

What caught my eye was the numbers didn't add up. If I do: 19104 + 310 = 19414 not 19415. That told me there was likely a duplicate in my library. So a quick look at the daily sync log which does dupe detection I found this:

What happened was my OTA software recorded an episode of a TV show I already had in the library. You might think that this is no big deal since wouldn't it be a simple file name comparison to find a dupe ? Perhaps in some instances but the Mezzmo Kodi addon is far more advanced. It compares TV shows by series name, season and episode, irrespective of where it is in the library, file name, file type etc.. . In this case the two files in question were in different folders with very different file names. Movies are handled similarly except the match is on title. Two movies cannot have the exact same title name, even if the file names, file types etc are different.
The fix was a quick delete of the new duplicate episode in Mezzmo and all Kodi clients immediately saw it. The whole time was less than 30 seconds from when I found the math error to deleting the duplicate. The Mezzmo Kodi addon kept the duplicate from being populated into the Kodi database so it was simply just logging errors of a dupe. This all fits into the design goal of making things as automated as possible and spending a minimal amount of time managing my library.

Over the past 2 weeks I have been using the new Mezzmo Movie Previews feature which will play a predetermined number of local trailers and then the main movie, just like being at the movies. My wife loves the feature and since it presents movies which we haven't seen yet by looking where the playcount is 0, we find ourselves watching a broader set of movies than before. I have noticed a few things which I plan to fix in the next releases of the Mezzmo Kodi addon and the Mezzmo Trailer Checker.
The Mezzmo Movie Previews stops showing previews and skips right to the main feature when all of the movies in your library for a given year have a playcount greater than 0. basically you've watched everything in your library for that year. In the next release of the Mezzmo Kodi addon it will try when the playcount is 0 first and then if it doesn't get back the right number of trailers it will expand to includes ones which you may have already seen.
When playing back a series of trailers there are times when Kodi will lose sound when switching to the next trailer. This is because I have Kodi set to Optimized vs. Fixed for the audio output configuration and the frame rates between the trailers don't match and Kodi has to try and switch. What I found is that even though I request 24fps trailers from You Tube with the Mezzmo Trailer Checker, sometimes it returns other frame rates including 25, 30, 60 etc. I am updating the Mezzmo Trailer Checker to detect incorrect frame rates and if you want, the Mezzmo Trailer Checker will automatically reencode to the proper frame rate to ensure smooth playback.
I've also noticed that the audio level on many trailers is much louder than the main movies. I am adding a setting where you can tell the Mezzmo Movie Trailer to adjust the volume, when it downloads local trailers, to between 50-200% of the original volume.
I may also add the ability to do bulk conversions / fixes of frame rates and volume on local trailers which have been downloaded (i.e. by incorrect frame rate, release year of main movie, movie number etc..) . This is a stretch goal for the next version of the Mezzmo Trailer Checker.
All of these tweaks should continue to improve the overall experience.

An updated version of the Mezzmo Trailer Checker (v0.0.9) has been uploaded to GitHub. This new
version has number of fixes and new features with the major feature being adjust trailers which allows
both automatic and on demand bulk adjustments of the trailer frame rates and audio levels. I looked
at the frame rates on my local trailers and I had 60+ different frame rates, even though the Mezzmo
Trailer Checker asks for the same one each time. This feature has been a huge time saver and major
improvement in movie preview consistency.
v0.0.9 fixes and features:
• Added statistics for count of movies with local trailers and those with no
movie trailers in Mezzmo.
• Added trailer fps check to add trailer frame rate to trailer checker database
• Fixed bug where a check new would continually check the same trailers vs.
checking the oldest last checked trailers.
• Fixed minor bug where check new would not check a local trailer with "youtube"
trailer in the file name.
• Added the ability to automatically adjust / standardize local trailer frame
rates and audio levels as new local trailers are fetched with a backup option
to retain the original unmodified local trailer.

to the next level.
The hosting of local trailers has made me watch trailers much more than before. This tool makes the job of managing them very easy.

An updated version of the Mezzmo Kodi addon for both Kodi v18 (v1.1.8.9) and
Kodi v19+ (v2.1.8.9) have been posted on GitHub. These versions contain a
few minor updates and a major new feature, Mezzmo Fast Sync, for Native
Mode Users. Mezzmo Fast sync allows speeding up the sync time between
Mezzmo and Kodi for new library content and bookmarks / resume point sharing
across clients. You can now adjust the replication time in the native settings
section of the addon.
The comparison chart of features between GUI and Native mode has been
updated. The goal has been to achieve as close to 100% feature parity as possible.
Other Kodi sharing solutions often force you to choose or require separate addons.
*** Important Note ***
Support for Kodi 17 and below is being phased out. Version 1.1.8.1 is the last version
which will have full Kodi 17 and below support. There are no plans to drop support
for Kodi 18 anytime soon.

day even when there were unplayed trailers from the same year.

An updated version of the Mezzmo Trailer Checker (v0.0.10) has been uploaded to GitHub. This new
version has a minor fix and adds support for nVidia hardware acceleration when adjusting the frame
rate or audio levels on local trailers.
v0.0.10 fixes and features:
• Added hardware encoding support for nVidia to speed up converting trailers
• Fixed minor bug introduced with v0.0.9 which would cause long trailers to
go through frame rate adjustments and be copied into the trailer folder
vs. being discarded.

An updated version of the Mezzmo Trailer Checker (v0.0.11) has been uploaded to GitHub. This new
version has a minor enhancements. Testing is underway for supporting IMDB local trailers and if it
goes well should be available in the next release.
The "clean files" feature in this release can help reduce disk clutter and makes it easy to delete local
trailer files when you've removed a movie from your Mezzmo library and you are running local trailers.
You don't need to run it all the time and not after you delete each movie. Just run it periodically to
help keep things clean.
v0.0.11 fixes and features:
• Added "clean files" and "show files" commands to display and delete orphaned
trailer files which do not have a Mezzmo trailer entry in the Mezzmo library
• Added IMDB movie numbers to the mTrailers table to prepare for upcoming
support for local IMDB trailers
• Added commit to trailer database after each 500 checks during large full
library trailer database checks
