only ever heard of this on a Shield, not a firetv
never experienced any issues with it on a firetv cube and i do have some 24fps movies as well i have tested gemini man at 60fps and never noticed any issues

After re reading...I didn't mean to say faster as the shield is pretty fast. I need something to replace the shield that plays 4k UHD av1 files, and UHD streaming apps like Disney and Prime. Every video I see, they show the apps crashing or won't play UHD due to fake certificates.

Suggest considering Fire Cube 3. Powerful & snappy, meets all your requirements. Replaced my Shield TV Pro's with them. Its only con is the ad-cluttered UI, but this is an option if it really bothers you.

CTRL+F "AV1" to find the ones that support AV1
near that text it will state whether or not it is for streaming app use, most explicitly state "Not for ..."

the only 2 i see are FireTV Cube Gen3
and

but i don't recall if the Rocktek G2 i have actually supported streaming apps as indicated
the FireTV Cube Gen3 definitely does, but has other caveats such as limited ram and really needs to either have a USB to Ethernet or connected to Wifi6 for any decent connectivity
the comparison between shield and firetv is vast, as in they are not similar at all, most shield users do not like fire devices and most fire users do not like shield
at the end of the day you will have to pick one and try it out then take advantage of the return policy if it sucks

i am actually bored of pushing the cube gen3, it's not like i am gaining anything from pushing it
it's just that ... It actually does do everything that seems to matter to most everyone
i would love to have something a little better to push but currently no such device exists that does everything that the gen3 cube will

no, unfortunately this is still a problematic codec across the board
only ever had it work on maybe 2 devices ever

I am also still not convinced that the Fire TV can do actual integer frame rates (24.0 Hz) .... I was pretty sure they can not or at least that this was an issue at some point in time.
It should be easy to test though: If you use the Kodi settings (Settings > System) to switch from 23.976Hz > 24Hz or vice versa, see if the screen blanks out. If it does, it actually changes the refresh rate between 23.976 and 24.0.
If anyone could try this, this would be really helpful.

Hi,
I'm going to buy my firts 4k TV this holidays.
I'm coming from 10yrs+ of HTPC+madVr for 1080p, but I'd glady move to a much simple setup like a Dolby Vision-licensed S905X4 Android TV Media Player suggested in post #1.
I read the topic but I still have a couple of doubts:
1 - is CoreElec like a normal Linux? Can I exit Kodi and use a browser, email client, torrent client etc? Can I move files downloaded on the player to an external device?
2 - I'll get a RTX 40xx PC too. Is the S905X4 solution better than a Windows madVr setup?
3 - Could I set the a Linux PC to get the same quality of a S905X4 solution (thus avoiding buying Media Player at all)?

1. is use case, i never needed anything from the play store that wasn't available from the amazon store
only loaded my streaming apps disney,prime,hulu,youtube and they were all pinned to the top row with kodi for instant access
never spent enough time on the home ui to be bothered by it, only for switching apps
2. i am away atm but when i get back i will explicitly test these conditions unless someone else does it first
i have always had kodi set to auto refresh and auto resolution and i have never noticed a bug with my European content which is 24fps
the only issue i ever saw was the audio which was resolved over 9 months ago now by fritsch

No, CoreElec is "JELOS" Just Enough Linux Operating System to run Kodi; so no, you cannot exit Kodi when running CE OS.
