took over a device here to test at minimum whitelisting

with Fire OS 7.6.8.5 and Kodi Omega as well as Nightly the versions currently available for download at https://kodi.tv/download/android/
- kodi-20241126-819d190e-master-armeabi-v7a

those refresh rates no longer come up in whitelist so they ARE NOT available with the current os version/kodi version or this display isn't allowing them

so i cannot say this is universally supported and could be a result of an older os version, older kodi version, my specific display or some customization i've done
also possible i have just been manually whitelisting because i copy my same advancedsettings.xml everywhere

now i have a reason to NOT recommend FireTV Cube Gen3

RE: Best Kodi Media Player Options 2024 - Mar18 - 2024-11-28

Hello, I want to buy a TV box but I'm tired of searching and I forgot that the Kodi application is official for Xbox Series S/X. I couldn't find anything on YouTube for my question how does kodi work in practice on xbox series s processor and 10 gb ram i think they are good for 4k hdr. But how do the console and Kodi cope with Av1 in 4k, because there is no hardware decoding, only programming, the CPU and GPU are good, but what about Av1 4k?

No, CoreElec is "JELOS" Just Enough Linux Operating System to run Kodi; so no, you cannot exit Kodi when running CE OS.
I was about to ask the same question. Was wondering if I could install Home Assistant or Homebridge on my Ugoos/Coreelec. No-go also I presume?

No-go, (in fact there is a way, it needs some expert knowledge) but is there any special reason to run them on CE? You can easily (re)boot to Android and use them there...

BTW, there is a "Home Assistant" Kodi addon, but AFAIR it works only on older Kodi versions, not on Omega that is needed for DV...

RE: Best Kodi Media Player Options 2024 - izprtxqkft - 2024-11-29

follow up

back at home today, trying to figure out why the cube at a friend's house wouldn't whitelist
but i can't just go messing around with their settings, it was awkward enough

-----

on my own device i reset and did a clean kodi only doing the following ...
changed the whitelist
change refresh rate to "on start/stop"
add file source to my nfs server
play a BDMV folder

nothing else

same kodi version as yesterday Kodi (22.0-ALPHA1 (21.90.700) Git:20241126-819d190e08), downloaded from kodi.tv no custom compiles
same FireOS version 7.6.8.5

testing Night of the Comet Collector's Edition from Shout Factory - https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Night-of-the-Comet-4K-Blu-ray/341268/

Code:
Width                                    : 3 840 pixels
Height                                   : 2 160 pixels
Display aspect ratio                     : 16:9
Frame rate                               : 24.000 FPS

kodi successfully switches to a whitelisted 24Hz and playback works fine

Code:
[WHITELIST] Searching the whitelist for: width: 3840, height: 2160, fps: 24.000, 3D: false
Display resolution ADJUST : 3840x2160 @ 24.000000 - Full Screen (28) (weight: 0.000)
CAndroidUtils: SetNativeResolution: 12: 1920x1080 [email protected]
VideoPlayer: OnLostDisplay received
CAndroidUtils: Current resolution: 1920x1080 3840x2160 @ 24.000000 - Full Screen

-----

2 same devices and software versions produced different results based on environment (or FireOS settings)
this is why i say it is better for users to do their own testing then take advantage of the return policy if they don't like it

currently you can pickup a refurb cube gen3 for $80 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TLFJ6JC
with a generous return window of 60+ days or until Jan 31st
and it's refurbished by sold by and shipped by Amazon

very little risk involved so if curious just pick one up

RE: Best Kodi Media Player Options 2024 - hdmkv - 2024-11-30

Added this to post #1 as a recommendation... finding mounting network shares in CoreELEC is noticeably improving library scans & quicker playback with AM6B+ & a couple of generic S905X4 boxes I have. Used this LibreELEC guide, but also applies to CoreELEC.

follow up to a follow up
because i am the way i am and i always have to understand how things work it was driving me crazy why i couldn't make this work the first time

changing settings on my cube i found out how to break whitelisting and by doing so i found the settings in FireOS that need to be set

Control Panel (from the gear icon)
-> Display & Sounds
-> Display
- Auto Resolution must be ON
- Match Original Frame Rate must be ON

otherwise no whitelist in kodi

since i'm here these are the rest of my settings in that section, just in case they matter

Color Depth 8bits
Color Format Auto
Calibrate Display No Scale
Dynamic Range Settings Adaptive
Game Mode/ALLM Auto
Sleep Mode Behavior No Signal
Super Resolution ON

RE: Best Kodi Media Player Options 2024 - meccs - 2024-12-01

@izprtxqkft

Thanks for testing this. And in general the 3rd Cube works well for you I assume? No audio correction issues etc.? I had some with my Cube 2 (that caused visual frame skips) since I switched from a Samsung QLED to the LG C2 but I couldn't figure out why. I'll start the actual troubleshooting with the Cube 3 if it still happens there. I just ordered one. It said "will be delivered by March 2025" lol. Probably because of the Black Friday discount.

RE: Best Kodi Media Player Options 2024 - hdmkv - 2024-12-01

For Cube 3, this is still recommended I believe for proper audio synch.

(2024-12-01, 10:09)meccs Wrote: And in general the 3rd Cube works well for you I assume?

yes, with the audio settings hdmkv linked above

noted caveats
- does not like heavy skins very much, they *can be workable but in general it's best to use Estuary
- does not like extraneous addons which is "partially" why the heavy skins don't work, they rely on too many addons and tend to be graphic heavy
- does not like 9999 for artwork sizes, if using a modified artwork size in advancedsettings then go for 720 or 1080 for a max
- network speed on the built in ethernet port is 100mbps, just buy a USB to Ethernet adapter, it will still be limited to ~270mbps but that is more than enough

as far as video playback it is perfectly fine
as far as matthuisman's slyguy addons it is perfectly fine and runs full L1 content (highest available), currently Disney+ and Hulu, previously Paramount+ but i cancelled it
Peacock TV is also fine, there is a thread in video addons for it if interested but it is not from matthuisman

so as long as you accept it has slightly less memory and make your kodi install to meet that then you should be happy

if the storage is an issue you can also offload the Thumbnails Cache to either a USB but creates slower access times
or a network share, at one point i had it offload over SMB and it was fine

ive used jellyfin media server so metadata (tmdb) scanning is not done on the cube so i have no insight there, do not expect issues
testing out emby to replace jellyfin and it also seems to be fine

-----

i've had this device since launch i pre-ordered mine and got it on release day so i believe i know this device quite well
and i still choose to continue it's use even with the very slight drawbacks listed
i bought a shield pro about a year ago because everyone on the forum kept telling me it was great
used it for a half a day and went back to cube and it now lives on the shelf with a bunch of other devices

i also have 2 cube gen2, it was never up to the task of kodi for me so until i got the cube 3 i ran LibreELEC on a PC and the cube gen2 was solely used for streaming apps
so i believe you when you say it had issues
they live on the shelf with the others

i also have a gen1 that i used since new, it had kodi on it but only ever got used for lower end DVD content
it also lives on that shelf

right on
hope it doesn't take until March that would be terrible
also hope it does everything you need it to

yea, no need to start investigating issues that may never appear

This is similar behavior like when the bootloader is blocked. Also no way to install anything from uSD/USB devices...

so here's something, sort of, interesting

i took the z9x 8k apart to poke around
there is some nice screen printing on the board to indicate "some" of the components

the usb port on the right forward most (when looking at the device head on) is labeled "usb_otg"
there is also a micro switch on the board labeled "usb_device"

if you hold down that micro switch when powering on and plug in a male-to-male usb cable (usb a) to the usb otg port, your pc recognize an AMLogic device is plugged in
and you have access to fastboot, issuing fastboot devices shows your Zidoo at this point

the part that makes it completely uninteresting though is that it doesn't accept any commands
oem unlock - command not implemented
getvar all - Variable not implemented
reboot fastboot "unknow command" (yes, misspelled)
fetch Unable to get max-fetch-size.
flashing unlock ...

and on and on

the only ones i didnt try were update, flash, flashall, erase ones because i don't have any images and i don't want a brick
if i had a viable boot.img i would have tried to boot a secondary boot from ram but i doubt it would have worked anyway

pretty sure this is either not supposed to be used or is only used to flash new images when they get bricks sent to them for repair

but it was entertaining while it lasted
