Will there be an option to display the logo art instead of just the title text ?

I've found that clearlogos aren't really consistent enough in their alignment to replace title text. If all the clearlogos were properly left aligned without any transparent space then it would do it, but there's just too many that have weird spacing from the sides which looks weird when all the other items in the group are left aligned.

They look pretty good by themselves though:

I'm experimenting with something in TMDbHelper to use PIL to provide an autocropped clearlogo. I'm not certain yet whether or not it's feasible or will be too much overhead. If I can get it working well, then I will provide an option to replace actual text with logo.

No, you can't change aspect (except in AEL because it's necessary). However, those are the default aspects anyway

I'm trying to figure out a way to have horizontal scroll for everywhere - only place I haven't been able to so far is where a list is absolutely necessary such as Songs / Files.

These are the aspects:

Landscape: Episodes / Videos / Artists
Image

Square: Addons / Albums / Pictures
Image

Poster: Movies / TV Shows / Actors
Image

Icon: Base Directories
Image

Folder: Genres / Years / Directors / Countries / Studios (uses landscape for folder as content can vary).

The Icon and Folder views are still very much WIP and might still change.

RE: Arctic Horizon - sasquatchjaques - 2020-03-01

Looks absolutely fine with logo in top corner (if it bothers me that much I can just edit the xml to remove the title but not a deal breaker it’s all down to personal choice 👍🏻

In regards to episode view would you consider the option of a vertical option as well as your default horizontal ?
As the skin is primarily vertical based I feel that this would keep to the aesthetic of the design ? Again no big deal as it’s you vision

Thanks for everything you bring to the scene

Does this mean initial AEL support?

RE: Arctic Horizon - Rijs43 - 2020-03-01

Looks amazing!!

When can we expect a beta?

Cheers for the hard work!

I agree. It is very nice looking.
However i think it will be nice if we can test it or at least release it in github. In that way we can give ideas what can be changed and what could be included. Wink

RE: Arctic Horizon - dej1i - 2020-03-03

Awesome work!!!! I am amazed by how you keep pumping out quality skins. Can't wait to try this one out.

RE: Arctic Horizon - mxlance - 2020-03-03

@jurialmunkey
This new skin looks interesting.
I look forward to trying it out.
I do have one big concern however.
This is not a criticism just an observation.
Has development of AZ2 been abandoned?
Fuse (nue) and Horizon have not been updated in many months and AURA also appears to be heading the same direction.
Would you be so kind as to give us some indication of your plans for AZ2 and AURA going forward.
Thank you for all your work and the beautiful and elegant skins you share with us all.

It'll end up on GitHub and the alpha repo whenever it's ready. I could be wrong, but I even felt like AZ2 got "piled on" with feature requests (some of them from me, admittedly) pretty much the second it hit GitHub Big Grin

No AZ2 hasn't been abandoned. I just haven't had much time for skinning in general as most of my time has been focused on TMDbHelper. I've actually been working on Arctic Horizon for about 9 months whilst AZ2 development was going on. Originally it was easy to make changes upstream in AZ2 and then merge into AH but now the skins have diverged significantly and it is difficult to work on both at once.

Generally work goes into the skin that I'm personally using and that I'm excited about, so that's why AH has received my attention recently. As I stated before, AZ2 really got bloated by adding bespoke features and now its really difficult for me to do the things that I want because I have to think about supporting all these features that I don't even like (and some I even despise and wish I never added but now I can't remove without being bombarded by complaints).

Fuse(Neue), the original Horizon, and Aura will not be developed any further. Arctic Horizon is my attempt to pull together many of my favourites features from all my skins.

There will likely be an Aura2 at some stage. Aura really needs to be rewritten as there are several fundamental issues with the way that skin is coded. I'm hoping as Arctic Horizon develops, it will provide a good base for developing Aura2. I've finally got a multi widget setup using skinshortcuts which I feel works really well.

The skins in my signature are my core skins and are the ones that I will always return to in some form

Without trying to be the guy to ask for an alpha/beta release... do you have an estimate of how far along the skin is? I'd love to help in any way I can Big Grin

I'd actually say it is fairly close. The skin is functional enough for me to use it as my daily driver in the loungeroom. I'm currently working on transition animation.

The main thing that is blocking an alpha release is that there is quite a bit of option clean-up that I need to do. There's several options that are either hidden, only work in a specific configuration, or are leftovers from AZ2 and will actually break things if enabled. I need to clean up those otherwise I'll be dealing with bug reports for non-existent features or because a setting was enabled that a user shouldn't be able to enable.

The other block currently is that there are few areas where I haven't settled on an exact viewtype or navigational approach. I don't want to release the skin knowing that I'm going to change those areas because what inevitably happens is that people complain and want both approaches supported and I end up in the same mess that AZ2 currently is in. Or users stop updating the skin and fork/mod/hack it to get the behaviour they want (or spam the thread asking how to add features "themselves" - aka "Can you code it for me and I'll copy paste where you tell me...") - I encourage mods but it definitely doesn't help in the alpha stage when I need testers for the base skin.

RE: Arctic Horizon - Ricks - 2020-03-04

One feature that I'd like to see and I'm not sure if it's possible as it seems to be baked into Kodi is when finishing playback of an item from a homescreen widget, it doesn't jump to the next category upon completion.

e.g. if you create a TV widget for next episodes etc and watch one from the widget, when playback completes it will return to the homescreen and focus on the next main menu item (e.g addons or whatever). This behavior makes sense when viewing from within a s menu (e.g episode list) as you want it to highlight the next episode upon completion.

I'm not sure if it is possible to achieve this as I don't think Kodi out of the box with default skin is designed for widgets in this way.

Look into the "Up Next" add-on.

EDIT: @jurialmunkey, will that one get the AH treatment?

RE: Arctic Horizon - cawigab - 2020-03-04

@jurialmunkey

First, I really appreciate the last comment you shared here in the forum. I am a huge fan of your skins and I’m carefully watching the updates on your github. I admit that I went back to a different skin than AZ2 and it was with all my regrets. I remember almost a year ago the speed and the fluidity of Arctic Zephyr and I was sad to Lose it with all the additions you made in the last year..

I think that you are very generous and you try to integrate a lot of requests to make people happy :p

But I believe that what makes your skins unique is basically due to the first vision of it when you share it at the beginning. i am pretty sure that’s why we are so many people to follow your work  and use your skins on a regular basis.

There is a difference between addressing a bug and asking for a new feature. The decision to make changes belong ONLY to you.

Like I said, I find myself really lucky to freely having access to your work and what I saw from Artic Horizon seems to be amazing. A huge thanks for that.

I am very excited to soon use Arctic Horizon and I hope that you understand that all I am trying to say (I usually speak French as you may notice) is that we are a lot who thinks that too many functions can kill the smoothness of the skin.

A+
