hi! i tried searching the forum and only found a post related to automatically starting kai, which is what my problem is.

i normally use kai ui on my pc (wrt54g engine) but once in a while i'd like to use xbmc... is there any way to have xbmc setup to only connect when i open the kai window? like when the ui gets disconnected and you have to open kai window if you want to reconnect to the engine. or at the very least set the xbmc ui to only takeover the ui from my pc when i choose? (instead of every reboot).

the only way i can figure out is to manually change the engine's ip so when i want to use xbmc on occasion, i need to enter the proper ip. (normally then xbmc cannot see the engine) this is a huge pain in the butt! :bomb:

does anyone understand the boot-up process in xbmc? it would seem to me that this option is probibly already in the program. i think this because at some point during the xbmc startup it must check for the kai engine so it would seem likely that it could easily be disabled or removed. if only i had an idea where to find the sequence of events during start-up.

oh yeah... :bump:

thanks!

i too find this irritating since i always forget that i have the ui open on the computer. so when i return to xbmc, kai ui closes, but then engine stays running until you launch an app or game, then that closes  Shocked

what i do as a workaround is under settings where you type in your ip address to your computer is instead of putting the full ip address, i just put 1 number instead of 3 at the end of it so xbmc doesn't find your computer's ip to connect

example
computer's ip address set in xbmc kai settings: 192.168.0.100 -> 192.168.0.1 (removed the last 2 numbers)

hope i explained this correctly  Smile
