i want to set my default dash to xbmc. i also want to run a clean c drive root.

with xbmp i just...
...put the prog in e:\apps\xbmp.
...renamed default.xbe to evoxdash.xbe and placed in c
...also placed the .cut file in the root of c.

my modchip then boots to evoxdash (really xbmp :-) when switched on or the original dash xboxdash.xbe when switched off.

question is how to set this up with xbmc ?

any ideas / help greatly appreciated. btw: excellent product ! just looking forward to that usb pvr addition ;-)

i also desperately want to run xbmc as my default dashboard, since it's so nice even though i miss some of the features still under development.

i don't have any solution to this but i tried to simply edit the cut-file and point it to my xbmc, but off course that didn't work. so now you don't need to try that one =)

regards
thomas

you can change where the bios looks for the xbe's using xbtool.

i currently have mine looking for e:\apps\xbmp2\default.xbe as first choice.

i am using xbmp as dash so just have cut file in root. (no need to remember to update c:\ xbe on upgrade  Smile )

but i am unsure if xbmc needs the cut or not.  try it with and without.  just make sure you have a evox disc  Image

i would like to do this also. i tried with the .cut file as in the older xbmp but like previously stated, this way does not work. anyone else found a way to do this? i didn't try using that program to make it look for a dash elsewhere, i suppose i could as a last resort but does anyone know of another way?

can xbmc/xbmp run as default dash while *not* using a modchip, but the font exploit ?

thanx

i don't know why this doesn't works. in the faq it is stated, that xbmc can be used as full dashboard replacement.
btw, really great work guys. thats why i want to change my xbmp dash to xbmc! :-)

sorry but the faq is wrong (i cut and paste it from xbmp then removed all things i thought where wrong), will update

hehe, i thought this could be the reason... :-) thanx for your answer. when do you think this will be implemented? hopefully soon! ;-)

yup i had xbmp as my dash after a mechwarrior/font hack. i worked great but i found that it was tied to my network. if it was unplugged for anylength of time it would fail to boot (clock problem). but as soon as you p[luged it to a network up it came, even if itwas just a laptop and a xwired cable. once it was back on my network it took the time from the time server and would boot without a connection. this was great for the house but crap for the car.

so you're saying that the ms original bios/dash includes a ntp client?
wow!

too bad i cannot run the original dash on my xbox (i can run it on older xboxes of friends, by editing it with an hex editor, replacing occurrencies of xtf in xft and signing it) but it does not work with my newest one, so i'm waiting for xbmc to have a dvd player that works with remote (dvdx2 does'nt) and a cool cdda player :-)

is it possible to run xbmc as a dashboard replacement?

- NizZ8 - 2003-12-08

joel,

not yet, but to my understanding this functionality will be added at some point.. i know there is a note on the 'to-do' list to impliment this feature in the future.

yes it is.

i flashed my xecutor chip to start "f:\apps\xbmc\default.xbe" as 1st boot executable.
