XBMC & External Players to allow DTS-HD Passthrough - denz13 - 2013-02-17 I'm looking at getting a Android TV Box running XBMC to replace my Win 7 HTPC due to aging/failing hardware. My aim is to playback MKV, AVI, MPEG files over the network from a NAS box to the Android TV box - how well does this work in your experiences? What appears to be the biggest flaw in the Android/XBMC solution is that there's no native DTS/DTS-HD Passthrough capability to a AV Receiver within XBMC. I've seen some threads that use external players (MX Player) to playback media content from XBMC which claim to support DTS/DTS-HD passthrough. Firstly, how true is this? How does using an external player effect the experience of XBMC? Does it have a delay in initial playback whilst the external player app starts up? If anybody has had any experience with this please let me know. RE: XBMC & External Players to allow DTS-HD Passthrough - Ned Scott - 2013-02-17 1- 2-good 3-they lied 4-no idea 5-it's about as fun as throwing up while someone kicks you in the nutts 6- RE: XBMC & External Players to allow DTS-HD Passthrough - denz13 - 2013-02-17 Sounds pretty bad, well if dts pass through isn't possible on Android then it's not a good alternative to windows for me. RE: XBMC & External Players to allow DTS-HD Passthrough - Ned Scott - 2013-02-17 Why does it sound bad? XBMC for Android will do DTS passthrough. RE: XBMC & External Players to allow DTS-HD Passthrough - denz13 - 2013-02-17 I've read there were licencing issues with Android and DTS? Hence no native support for DTS passthrough in XBMC? RE: XBMC & External Players to allow DTS-HD Passthrough - fma965 - 2013-02-18 yes but i think what ned means is it WILL but doesn't CURRENTLY RE: XBMC & External Players to allow DTS-HD Passthrough - denz13 - 2013-02-19 I see, I'm guessing there's no timescale for its implementation though? |
