XBMC on MINIX NEO X5 - ibrahimbenyahya - 2013-04-30

Hello,

Let's start with the fact that I dont know if this is the right place to post this problem.

I am thinking of buying the MINIX NEO X5. I think it's great to get all the apps right on your tv screen But most of the time l will use XBMC.

But how does XBMC run on the Minix X5. Will it run 1080p movies? Will it run heavy skins like aeon nox?? Are there any disadvantages?
Can someone share their experienceSmile

greetins,

Ibrahim Benyahya

PS: Sorry for my bad English. It isn't my native language

Off hand, I'm not sure, but search this thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=152005

Last I heard, 720 had no issues, but 1080 had some bug that required changes from the minix people (or whoever actually makes the device and/or chipset). I haven't head the thread in a while, though (I'm not a dev myself).

Stop thinking Minix and move on... thats my advice.
If it's a great XBMC experience you want.... this isn't the device for you. I should know, I have one and it's 3" thick with dust right about now.

My opinion is that Minix Neo X5 is the great device. course if you are going to use it with the XBMC only, then you should look into like Pivos + Linux XBMC build.
You can use this build http://www.xbmcandroid.com/2013/05/04/finally-a-stable-release-of-our-end-user-friendly-xaf-custom-build-of-xbmc-for-android-is-out/ to have XBMC working with the 1080p on Minix. But unfortunately there are some implications using it with the SMB shares.
This can be solved by using the SMBWrapper - http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?pid=1344849

Minix Neo offers very high quality hardware and compared to the other producers it's good device for money value.

Do you guys know on which android boxes/sticks xbmc will run well. So which do support hardware accelration. Besides the PIVOS.

PS: again, sorry for my bad English

this seems a good one: Geniatech ATV1200 but you may want to wait a little bit.... this month is scheduled the release of the first quad core solutions (surely by minix, maybe, if i recall correctly, even from geniatech, which should be better supported as it uses the same processor's family of the pivos)

I have tried Minix, Pivos, GBox Midnight and Rasperry PI.

The best is the PI. It might take 3-5 seconds longer to load a video but it plays 1080P without any issues and is the most stable.

Second would be the GBox Midnight. I would recommend installing the ultra slim firmware which takes a lot of the useless android stuff you don't need. The extra memory helps when running high quality movies.

The Minix and the Pivos round out the last 2.
