XBMC + Skype + DTS / 7.1 passthru /optical - purduephotog - 2013-06-02
I think I hit all the high points.
I've built a few HTPCs to use but would like to convert to a smaller form factor for use now. Over riding concern is having functioning skype as my father is very ill (cancer) and I want to make as much face time with him/grandkids as possible.
Kids are 2 / 4, so no matter what probably limited on how they can control the TV via bt or app on a small, cheap tablet, but all their movies are/will be moved to the NAS downstairs and wireless made available (FreeNAS).
My next HTPC was going to be an integrated 1.1ghz celeron BGA board (which has done quite well) with hdmi out. The previous was an atom with hdmi, optical.
I have a 7.1 receiver in the mix, as well, and would like to take advantage of the speaker setup by not downsampling too much, hence the desire for optical out... but that is not a deal breaker.
Yes, a bit distracted about Dad, so I would love to have ideas for what to do. I deploy to quite a bit of different locations, so simple is good too.
Not asking for too much, am I? Sorry for the slightly winded post. I just am a bit more scattered than usual over all these issues and realizing I just don't have the time to make the fully informed decisions I crave.
