WMC and Placeshifting - Talguy - 2014-01-02 My parents were nice enough to get me an InfiniTV4 for christmas. I am swinging by my local comcast center to pick up a cable card tonight. Hopefully I'll be watching TV on my HTPC by this weekend. I've decided to go with the WMC PVR addon as it looks to be the most stable out of all the PVR addons. I have the intention to be able to watch live tv in my living room via my HTPC connected to my tv and in my bedroom via my laptop running XBMC. I want to know is it possible to do a place shift with the WMC addon. A placeshift is I pause the TV in one room and start back up at the paused spot in another room. So is this possible with the WMC PVR Addon and how does it actually work? RE: WMC and Placeshifting - scarecrow420 - 2014-01-03 The answer is "sort of" To achieve this currently, you would need to do the following: While watching a show, press record (to instant record what you've been watching) then hit STOP Because we support resume functionality, when you go to watch this recording in another location it should offer to resume from the timestamp where you stopped viewing in the first room. The caveats are: You have to be on GOTHAM (resume support isn't implemented for Frodo due to the way Frodo handle sit, which would lead to large amounts of resume info callbacks to the backend so we chose not to support it for Frodo) This would only work for that one show. The instant record would finish at the end of that show, so you wouldn't be able to watch subsequent shows unless you also scheduled recordings for those RE: WMC and Placeshifting - Talguy - 2014-01-03 That sounds resonable enough. I couldn't test it out last night as when I called comcast to pair my card it paired fine but couldn't receive a CP Auth Message. So hopefully saturday after the service guy comes out I'll be testing this place shift functionality out. |
