HDHomerun Prime Myth 0.27 Live TV issues - ozooha - 2014-01-21
Hi,
I have my XBMC (12.3) setup for using the MythTV plugin over the Silicondust Prime network tuner.
My OS is ArchBang (86_64) with Mythbackend - 0.27 set up.
I see the loading of the channels but upon clicking them to view I wait for about few mins (while the halo circles down at the
right hand corner) and get an error saying that no stream was found.
However I can use VLC along with the hdhomerun_prime_gui to see those same channels .
Below is the relevant piece of log for the PVR manager.
Any help or suggestion from the experts here is required. Thanks for the time and patience.

The problem is the version of the cmyth plugin distributed with Frodo doesn't work w/ MythTV 0.27. Look around the forums and you'll find a version that does. PM if you can't find it and I'll post my currently installed version of the addon that does work w/ XBMC 12.3 and MythTV 0.27. (In fact, my current setup is identical to what you've described above, including the HDHomeRun.)

but remained unsuccessful.
Where did you complie it from?
my versions were 1.6.11, 1.6.12 and 1.6.13----no glory with either of them.
Is there a particular method to install from zip other than the usual way XBMC dictates?
If you don't mind can you send me your zip file.

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=178207&pid=1552096#pid1552096 contains the link to the version I'm running. Just download the zip and install from it. Note, be careful that you actually get the right version installed. I've had weird issues before w/ XBMC keeping a cached version in /home/xbmc/.xbmc/addons/packages even after I installed a new version. When in doubt I make sure that the installed addon dir, the package cache, and userdata are all empty before I install the addon.

So I did a clean and fresh install:
removed all the pvr.myth remanants from the following folders:
~/.xbmc/addons/
~/.xbmc/addons/packages/
~/.xbmc/userdata/addon_data
installed the zip file mentioned by you in the above link...and still no joy.. see the error from the xbmc.log below
What am I doing wrong here? or what have I missed ?

Gleaning over the mythtv forum I get the feeling that a certain version of XBMC is compatible with a version of cymth plugin -specifically the 1.6.11 mentioned above.
The later versions of XBMC seem to break that compatibility. In light of this information could you tell me your XBMC version number working with the cymth plugin?

No, that's definitely not true. I'm running the latest XBMC from the XBMC Stable PPA (12.3), the cmyth addon I pointed you to, and the mythtv 0.27 from the MythTV 0.27 PPA. In fact, when they updated XBMC to 12.3 I had to hold the cmyth package from the XBMC PPA to prevent the one I installed getting updated (since the current version in the PPA still doesn't work with MythTV 0.27).
I'm thinking that now you are getting a different problem than before even though the log file looks the same. Have you checked to make sure you can connect to mysql on the machine mythtv is running on? Also, you can check /home/mythtv/.mythtv/mysql.txt for the correct parameters. Also, on my setup the default port for mysql was 3306 not 6543. So, my settings.xml for the mythtv addon looks like this:

I see. I have been using the xbmc from ArchLinux's official repositories. Should I be using xbmc-git from AUR?
Since the XBMC LIVE TV loads the EPG I think my database connection is good which is 3306.
The 6543 is the port for the mythbackend protocol so that too is correct.
Its just that it doesn't initiate any thing hence the empty connection as seen in my error log above after the fresh re-install of the plugin.
Let me know your thoughts.

Hmm, I'm running out of ideas. Have you tried to run the mythtv-frontend? Does it work as it should? Is XBMC and MYTHTV on the same box? If so, did you make sure your settings.xml has the 127.0.0.1 for the host like mine does (I saw in another thread someone had a similar problem a long time ago and it was a hostname issue).
I didn't realize that you were getting EPG data just not live tv. Maybe you could share your cmyth settings.xml? I think it has to be a config issue. Other problems I could think of are: mythtv being on a different box from XBMC but running on the loopback interface or a firewall blocking the 6543 connection.

I use XBMC as the frontend so I have installed just the mythbackend.
Yes XBMC and mythbackend are on the same PC and yes I have set the hostname to 127.0.0.1.
I will definitly share the cmyth's settings.xml when I get home but i doubt that is a problem.
Also one doesn't need the dvbhdhomerun driver to be installed for Silicondust Prime to work?
I have both of them that is the libhdhomerun and the dvbhdhomerun installed. I doubt the latter will
interfere with the former.

Can you record?
Can you play back a recording?
You can set up a recording via mythweb, without involving xbmc at all.

I apologise for getting back to you so late.
You made a good point which I had to verify about checking whether other frontends work independent of XBMC.
They do not as mythweb cannot record and mythfrontend doesn't let me watch live tv.
I followed the instructions from the page: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Configuring_MythTV_for_the_HDHomeRun_Prime
I however use mc2xml as my grabber which is the only difference.
But after running the channel scans on each of the tuner sucessfully on the mythbackend I still could not watch any of those supposedly tunned channels on the mythfrondend or for that matter on XBMC.
The "watch live tv" on the mythfrontend part would simply flash out whenever I hit the enter button and in case of XBMC it would give me a message: "MyhtTV cmyth PVR plugin Recorder unavailable".
Do you have any suggestions or references which would help figure out why I cannot watch live tv despite the successful scanning of
channels by the tuner.

OK so you have a mythtv setup problem. Until myth is working, xbmc won't either.
Try joining mythtv-users mailing list and get help from the many clever people there.

Sorry to necrobump but I wanted to document a likely solution since this thread is the only google result for that message. May save others some time if they run into it.
There is a permission denied message buried in xbmc.log when this happens. In my case, tracing it back showed a group problem with the myth backend storage directory specifically. After fixing that the backend was happy and xbmc live tv was fine from there on. So bottom line is check closely to see if the mythtv user can see the storage directory and fix the owner/group permissions as needed.
