Guide going back in time - muzicman0 - 2014-03-21

So I read in another thread that the guide going back in time is a new Gotham feature...that's fine and all...but how do you get to the menu that is normally accessed by pressing 'left' on your remote? Now going left just takes me to a previous date in the guide...

Hi muzicman0,

This isn't related to our PVR addon - it affects all PVR usage in XBMC. As such your query should probably be in the general PVR support forum.

I believe the back button is used to get back to the sidebar, but it is skin dependent. I believe the XBMC developers would have made this work in Confluence skin and then any other skin is up to the skin mainteainer to do the same.
I think it's only recent nightly builds that have this addressed.

There was much discussion about it here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?pid=1619136#pid1619136

For the record, several people did not like this "going back in EPG" thing, myself included... but the decision is made that it is here to stay and wont be able to disabled... so need to get used to it Smile

Yeah, the most we can hope for is to make it an option to be enabled or disabled in Gotham++ but that doesn't even look likely...it sucks.

I definitely agree that should be an option I still don't understand what is the purpose of it. I was really surprised when I noticed it the first time I was WTF is this how do I get the side menu again then I noticed if I hold the left arrow it will eventually bring up the side menu.

To me it is a horrible feature when there are a lot of other missing features and improvements that can be made to PVR. Faster channel changes is one of them.

I will click on the discussion link maybe I will get an answer there.

I think you're just going to get more frustrated...

Hey guys,

It turns out you CAN disable the feature to store past EPG data in XBMC Gotham.

If you insert the following into your advancedsettings.xml file you can manual disable your EPG from storing past guide data.

Code:
<epg>
  <lingertime>0</lingertime>
</epg>

The units for the <lingertime> tag is minutes. The default setting is 1440 for 24 hrs.

More info about creating your advancedsettings.xml file can be found on the wiki:

I was really pleased to be able to go back in time! Finally when I miss a show, I can go back to it and set it as a series recording with ease. Great feature. Also, the Back/Exit button on my remote automatically brings up the left hand pane on first click, then exits to the home screen on second click. So you should still have an easy one button access to it.
