DTS and Dolby Digital with KÖNIG AV cable for Xbox? - Ramses604 - 2007-08-23

Hi people,

I know it's my first question,
I searched around on all information sources regarding this problem but I didn't find any solution.. I hope someone here can help me out..

I have recently bought a 2nd hand XBOX modded with a chip "I think". In my information page it says.. modchip: disabled lookup and with bios it says: Enigmah-X .. So I suppose it's modded with Enigmah-X.
I installed the most recent version of XBMC and can run the MS dashboard by renaming xboxdash.xbe..

so everything is working fine EXCEPT.

I can't get the digital sound to work..

I bought this cable: http://www.consoleshop.be/product/26828/29372/1329/konig-xbox-digital-optical-av-cable.html

and it just doesn't show me the option in either the MS DASH or the XBMC settings.. I only get Dolby Surround, NO DTS or Dolby Digital..

the weird thing is, I do get sound through my optical cable.. It just comes out as Stereo PCM .. no matter what source I use, DVD, AC3 xvid, Games or whatever..

Does anyone has the same cable ?

is this because of my Chip ? I don't find much info about this Enigmah-X thing ? also a question .. :-)

Or is this because of my ms Dash ? how can I actually replace that one ?

I have build 5960 with Live I think.. but I normally just use XBMC off course

And where do I get a good cable ? if it's the cable.. I live in Belgium ..

tnx in advance, I hope I can solve this problem .. I'd love to do my dvd player away.. but I first need to get the digital sound working..

ps: I am using a good receiver, I know that's not the problem.. yamaha RX-V659

if you do not get the DTS/Dolby (Digital Audio) option in Microsoft dashboard or XBMC then the cable is bad, simple as that, you need a other cable.

PS! Enigmah-X is like the very first modchip (THE very first I think) that came out for the Xbox, but that should be no problem.

tnx very much !.. this is exactly what my expectations were.. And now I know for sure !..

I have been looking in the cable thread..

but I didn't really found a good solution..

any one knows a good buy for a cable here in belgium ? one that works for sure !! ?

tnx

I've the same cable but DTS works fine.

- Ramses604 - 2007-08-29

I bought another cable on EBAY..

today it arrived, and it works !!! .. so it's definately the cable idd..

for your information

I bought this cable

http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140150280578

you need your old cable as weel if you don't want RGB connectors..

the only problem is I can't use S-video anymore.. but doesn't matter.. I don't think s-video make much of a difference with RCA..

tnx for the info !! I hope I can help other people.. NOT BUYING this crappy König Cable..

I tested a KÖNIG/KONIG cable today and it worked just fine (great image quality on my 720p projector), just had to flick the switch on the cable first! ...I actually read manual for the cable and the cable have two modes, one mode for component (HDTV) and SPDIF out and one mode for composite, S-Video and RCA out.

So are you sure you switch your KONIG cable to the correct mode?

- Gamester17 - 2007-08-29

oh, note that the SP/DIF (digital cable) connector on that KONIG cable only works together with the component video mode

- buZztiaan - 2007-08-30

Yeah, i bought this Konig cable aswell

Composite works, SVideo works, Component works (i know, flick the switch)

I see digital output in dash, i see digital output in xbmc, but ...

the 'light' stays 'dim'
There is no signal coming over the spdif.. my receiver is not showing any pcm input.
I replaced the optical cable, i switched inputs , nothing works...

Is there something wrong with the cable?

- buZztiaan - 2007-08-30

buZztiaan Wrote:Is there something wrong with the cable?
Ha, yes

Ok

The led in the spdif connector was off-center. Opened it up, and fixed it \o/ w00h00

Now to make a new housing for it Smile

I tried both modes.. and with me with none of them the digital output worked

How to enable the digital sound? - raas - 2008-01-05

Hi,

I have a Konig-gaming Digital AV-cable with optical out connected to my xbox.
The cable has composite/svsh, component rgb, and optical output.

I have editted the sound settings in the ms dash to dolby digital 5.1.

But in xbmc I can't change the sound to digital, only analog is available.

However, sound (2 channels I guess) is outputted on the optical line.

My receiver plays music, and the display indicates 'linear/pcm' (jvc-amp).

Now, while playing a movie (with verified dts sound) the dts-logo on my amp is not lit, it still says linear/pcm.
The same movie (original disc, not the iso) played in a standard dvd player connected digitally to the amp does lit the dts-logo.

Any ideas on how to enable the true digital output in xbmc.

Thanks in advance,

Raas

Which exact build (date) of XBMC? and can you try to enable DD (DolbyDigital) in the original Microsoft Xbox dashboard?

I have the KöNIG cable myself and optical out works, but only when using component video (not composite), that is because the switch on the cable is wired wrong. Are you using component out (the red, bue, green cables) or composite (the yellow cable)?

PS! Is you Xbox hardware modded (with a modchip) or softmodded (with a game exploit)?, some softmods have a virtual EEPROM which do not let you enable DD/DTS nor HDTV (480p/720p/1080i)

Hi,

Thanks for your answer,

fiddled around a bit.

there's a switch on it.. composite/svhs or component.

if in component mode, there's true dolby digital and dts, also available in ms dash and enabled.

now digital output is also selectable in xbmc,

only thing is, output on svhs is in black and white, and no output on the composite, also, there's no analog audio available

I have not checked the component as I don't have a screen which accepts it.

I bought this cable thinking it would have it all,

composite/svhs and digital/analog audio at the same time, having the component option for the future when I buy my new screen.

The flaw in the switch you mention, is it easy to change? I'm fairly experienced with small soldering.

And,

Is the xbox actually capable of doing the following things at the same time:

-svhs
-composite
-analog audio through the L/R rca
-digital output through the optical

When i'm in the room I want to watch movies on the tv connected through svhs and using the optical sound for the amplifier, when watching series or some other content where you don't need the amplifier for analog audio directly to the tv. The composite I want to use for a wireless audio/video transmitter in order to watch movies/series on the tv in the bedroom, controlled with the dvd-kit,
If the xbox would also be capable of doing component at the same time, by box is future proof.

TIA.
