just opened an audio-related ticket here http://trac.kodi.tv/ticket/16792 but after looking at the stacktrace it hit me I'm using the FreeSurround ADSP and it may be related, so posting here for awareness.
See details in the bug report, but happy to assist and provide more info here as far possible.

confirming now it seems to be the freesurround plugin. Tested a bit more, and when disabling the plugin, Audio runs well forever.

Problem still exists in Kodi v17 “Krypton” Alpha 3 (not sure if its worked on?)

Thanks for reporting this issue. Currently I'm not sure if it is related to adsp.freesurround or to our core implementation in ActiveAE.
I will try to solve this issue when my asplib refactor is merged.
