Help with setting up DVBViewer plugin in Kodi - neild7744 - 2016-12-04

Hello!

I have just moved over from Mediaportal PVR client to DVBViewer and I am having a few issues getting DVBViewer client to work correctly in Kodi.

Basically I have 2 Win7 embedded PCs running Kodi 16.1. I have the latest DVBViewer recording service setup on my main PC.

I currently have a quad DVBT2 tuner card in my main PC. I have scanned DVBT UK channels within Trans edit and setup a favourites list in DVBViewer Pro.

Both Kodi machines correctly load the DVBViewer PVR clients and i can see EPG etc.

Now for the issues...

1) If I watch a TV channel on my lounge PC, then simultaneously try to watch a TV channel on my bedroom client, the channel fails to load (all i see is a blue loading circle).

2) Im getting 'unable to parse timers' error on my bedroom Kodi client?

Im pretty new to DVBViewer so bear with me. I also have the following questions:

3) When I scanned my DVBT channels in trans edit, how do i / do i need to map the remaining 3 DVBT tuners to those channel lists?

4) When i setup each Kodi client DVBViewer plugin, where do i point the timeshift folder fort each machine? In mediaportal I set everything to a single shared folder on an SSD on my main machine?

5) Do I need to enable RTSP streaming for live TV in the Kodi DVBViewer plugin?

6) Im regularly seeing 'the host cannot be reached on port 8089' when i double click on DVBViewer recording service? This is causing 'connection lost' errors in Kodi.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

hi,
i'm german so excuse my poor english here.

i only use dvb-s but it should be the same for dvb-t
1.)check if all tuners in hardwaresection of the recording service are enabled. [1]
2.) a kodi.log would help to find the issue
3.) you scan to sender group, so you need only to mark the right group to the right tuner
4.) you can also use the shared folder but you should make a subfolder for each client. configuriere the folder to protocoll://pc/share/subfolder (eg. smb://user:password@skybird-pc/share/client1 )
5.) No. Switching using UPNP is much faster because kodi handle rtsp much slower. just activate the right checkboxes.[2]
6.) looks weird maybe you missconfiguried something at the recording service?[3]

  • #2 might happen if the RS service or computer shuts down. In general the message pops up when either the timerlist (which gets polled every few minutes) cannot be fetched or parsed.
  • #6 sounds related to #2 or vice versa

Thanks for your help.

I followed your advice above skybird1980 and things seem to be working ok.

Ive setup a recording for later this evening... so hopefully things will work out!

Im pretty impressed so far with the speed of channel changes... much better.

Ive got a couple more questions about the DVBViewer plugin...

1) How many satellite and terrestrial feeds can DVBViewer handle? I acutally have 8 x DVBS2 tuners and 4 x DVBT tuners. At the moment (for testing) im only using the 4 x DVBT tuners, but want to pull in a lot of FTA satellite channels in the future?

2) Is it possible to use multiple DVBViewer recording services across multiple PCs with Kodi? Additionally I have another 4 x DVBS tuners and another 2 x DVBS tuners with CI slots. I would have to fit these cards into another PC (as i have no more free PCIe sockets in my 'main' PC)?

3) One issue ive always had with Mediaportal is that having soo many tuners installed... when i setup lots of multiple recordings Kodi would freeze up and i would have to reset my PC. There was an MP workaround which did function ok, but found it annoying that when i was watching live TV and a scheduled recoding started everything froze up... how does DVBViewer compare?

4) This ones Kodi related.. is there a way to reduce the time Kodi PVR service checks for scheduled recordings etc? I often setup a recording, see the green timer log, but doesnt change quickly once the recording begins. Ive also had the issue where i would setup a scheduled recording in my bedroom... my lounge PC would take a while to register that scheduled recording and update the EPG (if that makes sense!).

5) Has anyone managed to get UK Sky TV working with DVBViewer and Kodi?

Thanks for all your support so far!

I didn't found a maximum until now.

Sure you can. i would prefer to use only one installation on main pc for all channels. include all other recording services as virtual device to first installation. however, can i ask why you need that much tuners? Big Grin

i never expierences such problem. maybe the freeze comes from upspinning of your nas?

one time per minute isn't enough? maybe manül can make that configurable.. at all, the timer is programmed instand. so thats only a luxus problem Big Grin

i don't use pay tv, sorry Smile

RE: Help with setting up DVBViewer plugin in Kodi - manül - 2016-12-04

I believe all your dvbviewer/RS related question should better be asked at the dvbviewer forums.

re 2) Kodi can only create one instance of a specific PVR. As a result a Kodi instance can only be connected to one RS backend. I'm not sure if you can link multiple RS together. Better ask at the RS forum.

re 4) I don't know what a "green timer log" is, however the PVR fetches the timerlist every 1 minutes (it's 5 in "low perf.mode") or if you add a new timer (local only). The RS sends broadcast events however there's no support for that yet.
edit: Can you elaborate on "[...] but doesnt change quickly once the recording begins"? Why do you need to change the channel?

2) this is my thinking, too. But you can add a second RS Service as RTSP Device to first RS Service and so on Smile
It's like to connect to a sat2ip tuner.
at least you only have to manage and connect to first RS Service with all kodi instances.

How are you doing on this one? Got the stuff sorted out?

I didn't read through all replies, but I do understand this can be frustrating at times. I have a smaller setup I guess, but perhaps if you still need some help here and there I can be of assistance.
