Possible to disable hardware decoding only for SD? - djten - 2018-01-23 I'd like to use hardware decoding for HD and software decoding for SD. Is there any way to disable hardware decoding only for SD content? I found an old advancedsettings.xml from a couple of years ago to do this, but it doesn't seem to be working for me on Kodi 17.6 (maybe those options have been removed?). Using an nVidia Shield TV if that matters. Thanks! RE: Possible to disable hardware decoding only for SD? - Atreyu - 2018-01-24 There's an option for this in Player settings. RE: Possible to disable hardware decoding only for SD? - FernetMenta - 2018-01-24 You should not generalize. video decoder vdpau and vaapi, which are available on reference platform: Linux X11, provide options to i.e. disable only mpeg2 hw decoder. RE: Possible to disable hardware decoding only for SD? - djten - 2018-01-25 Thanks, I am using Kodi on android/shieldtv. I can't seem to find any of those options, so for now I am just manually going into the menus and toggling hardware decoding on and off when I watch SD content. Sort of annoying but it works. Doing this since the shield hardware deinterlacing for standard definition is unwatchable to me. I see the SPMC offshoot actually has a menu option to only enable hardware decoding for HD and above, but for a few reasons I am sticking with the original Kodi. RE: Possible to disable hardware decoding only for SD? - djten - 2022-04-04 Sorry for the necro bump, I am still trying to find a solution for this on an nvidia shield (android platform). I only want software decoding for SD videos in order to use ffmpeg decoding and yadif deinterlacing (while still using hardware decoding for HD and 4k). I couldn't find a solution in Kodi back when I originally posted so I have just used SPMC ever since then (you can set it to use hardware decoding for HD and higher). With the recent nvidia shield update a couple months ago, it broke audio sync in SPMC so I am giving Kodi another try. But I still can't find any options to use software decoding for SD only -- is the only solution to manually toggle hardware decoding in the options for every video? Thanks for any insight. |
