Cleaning thumbnails folder but Movie / TV artwork Poster and Fanart not coming back - willburstyle06 - 2018-07-26

So I recently moved my Kodi 16 Aeon MQ5 installation to a new computer by installing Kodi16.1exe then copied the local Kodi app data folder over from my old computer. With my Movie/TV library files in the same C/D paths as before everything works fine with the skin and artwork in place it it seems like a perfect transfer over to the new computer. I did notice the thumbnails folder was something like 7GB so I deleted the thumbnails folder and the textures13db file so that Kodi would rebuild them. But so far after scrolling through both the TV and Movie sections of my Kodi library it is not rebuilding the Movie Fanart / Poster and the TV Fanart and posters. What did I do wrong? It's not too big of deal since I just can move the thumbnail folder and textures13db files back from the other PC. At the same time I know I don't need 7GB of thumbnail files and would like to be able to clean it up without completely losing poster and fanart from my library

Hello @willburstyle06

I assume you don't have local artwork stored with the movie. How did you initially scrape the movie and artwork? Did you use NFO Files created by a media manager, or did you use the Kodi scraper?

When a movie is scraped or scanned, Kodi saves the path of where the artwork came from. If it was local, it will save a local path, it was from TMDB it will save the web address to the image on TVDB site. Sounds like you don't have any paths to artwork saved or they may be outdated paths. You can check for yourself by looking in the art table of the MyVideos1xx database. If you see any links in there, copy one to a web browser and see if it works.

If these links did work, then kodi would follow them, download the image to cache and write the cache path in the textures database.

Most of the files were originally added to the library using the Kodi TMDB scraper. I'll have to go and check on my original PC kodi 16 installation for the myvideos1xx database and see if any of the paths still work
