Embedded Closed Captions and or Subtitles do not stay enabled - bornagainpenguin - 2019-04-07 I am encountering this in both Linux and on Android running the latest versions of Kodi (18.1) where I have a video episode with embedded subtitles. I set and enable closed captions and or subtitles across the board because I'm hard-of-hearing and I want them enabled where ever possible. This means I have them enabled in Settings -> Player - > Language = "Enable parsing for Closed Captions" and in Settings -> Player -> Videos = "Activate teletext" and in the OSD player settings Subtitle settings = "Enable subtitles" and "Set as default for all media". In the past this would work just fine with previous versions of Kodi and enable subtitles\closed captions for all videos but for some reason I have been forced to manually enable subtitles from the OSD player settings for each video, every time, every time. It's getting annoying. What do I have to do to make it work and stay enabled set-it-once-and-forget-it? Do the below to fix that. 1) Kodi Settings > Player > Language > Preferred Subtitle Language > User Interface Language (None, Forced Only & Original Language will stop per-video subtitle settings from working) 2) Start to play a video with subtitles. Go into the OSD menu and disable subtitles. Then select "Set as default for all media" All videos will now default to having subtitles turned off. However, you can still enable subtitles for certain videos and they will remember that settings Embedded Closed Captions and or Subtitles do not stay enabled - bornagainpenguin - 2019-08-29 Thank you for your reply. I apologize for not having seen it before now. I was depending on Tapatalk to notify me of responses and I never received got any notifications for this discussion. I'm trying to get subtitles to always be on, not off or selectively enabled. Currently if the subtitles are embedded in the file I must either waste space with an external sub or manually enable the subtitles each video. This isn't too big of a deal for movies but when binge watching television shows it's a pain having to do it each episode. Even worse when watching half hour shows... I just want subtitles to always be enabled and for some reason this doesn't work when subtitles are embedded into the video files. |
