before i start the upgrade marathon - yoda2018 - 2019-06-04
slightly off topic but my media server os has reached EOL, so its time to update and while im at it ill be updating my mysql db now im sound with loosing my library but i was wondering if it could be avoided just a thought

A "media server"..? Sorry, not enough information.
If you run a MySQL database, you should know how to make backups/dumps of it, and how to restore those.
Avoiding a library loss? At least do a Video Library export, with watch statuses and resume points enabled in the advancedsettings.xml file.
