No information available. Huh? - ThumbOne - 2019-08-22

What does that mean?

Image

I mean OK. It means No information available. But what does that mean? What information is it hoping for? Where is it looking? I sort of which when I clicked that box up would pop a message telling me what it was hoping for and what I might configure so that it's happy and has some information. But no such thing happens.

There's no fanart available.

One cannot help but wonder, why it does not say that. And further provide some idea on why not. Where does it look for fanart and how can its reach be improved or fanart be added/found. Or like what are teh reasons it found no fanart. None out here? Couldn't connect to the services it wanted? Be super cool if stuff like that were available behind "No information available" I guess.

I think that might be a lot to put in a dialog box. It is probably easier just getting that info from reading the wiki. https://kodi.wiki/view/Artwork

Hmmm can't see that a useful pop up like "Kodi gets looks for art at fanart.tv to display in this box but couldn't find any for the Artist: Natalie Merchant" is a lot of information for a dialog box myself and turns cryptic behaviour into something lucid. Nor does it explain why "No fan art available" is written as "No information available".

And sure I've read that wiki page (a few times) but it doesn't answer any of these questions. The closest it comes is a vague suggestion that fanart.tv is scraped but makes no mention of that box on Information window.

Just saying ... Kodi rocks! But man it has some cryptic behaviour.

I guess in general Kodi doesn't really provide context-based help except in the settings.  As far as what the skin displays, you could ask in the skin-specific subforum.

Then I guess you were probably looking for a link to https://kodi.wiki/view/Music_artwork

In a nutshell it looks for local sources of art and if that is not found it looks at sources defined in your scraper. Outside sources can be somewhat hit or miss so it may be necessary to manually add things you want but are missing. If you add missing art to those outside sources then people who come after you are saved that extra step. Unfortunately with music the matching can become very complicated as it is rife with edge cases where problems can occur. Support is currently pretty solid if you tag with Musicbrainz before scraping but that is not exactly for the faint of heart for anyone with a decent sized collection https://kodi.wiki/view/Music_tagging

The section above (which is the songinformation) either shows artwork/fanart if available. If there are tags available like this:

those will be prefered over the fanart and the window will have a different layout then as you can see.

So "No infotmation available" in that case means, that there's neither any kind of fanart nor any kind of further informations like "comments" or "Artist info" available as tags for that music file.

Beside the wiki mentioned above you could also try:

from the music artist main screen

That context menu entry will change depending on which listing you are. It can either be:

Music -> Artists:
- Query info for all artists

Music -> Albums:
- Query info for all albums

Also the artist/album information dialog is weak in Estuary IMO and could do with redesigning (something I have neither time nor skill to do). The current version does not show all the information that the scrapers can fetch and music library stoires for artists and albums, but you could always use another skin....
