cache settings working? - dan3o3 - 2008-07-14 Hi, since I encounter massive hangs while watching a full HD mkv I tried to increase the cache sizes. I watch these files form a SMB share on my server, connected via a gbit LAN link. Well, I see no difference even after I increased all cache sizes to the max. It seems server raid or the bloody ip stack of vista is not able to deliver fully the speeds needed for full hd, so my only hope is a huge buffer to watch movies without hanging. Can anyone confirm that the cache settings work in the actual windows build? Greets, Dan BTW: BIG BIG BIG thanks for porting my #1 media player to windows! :-) - phunqe - 2008-07-14 Unless your hardware is broken, there are no issues in streaming HD content. I can even stream full BD rips from my fileserver over SMB. Note that I am refering to a "proper" file server here and not boxed NASes such as Dlink, Netgear and so on. They can have a quite a low cap on their throughoutput. Full HD playback in XBMC for Windows seems to be broken (or not working properly at the moment). I haven't experienced hangs as you, but most people get lag and stuttering. To be sure it's not your network, you could try VLC or something. Although I don't trust VLC performance 100% when it comes to HD so I would install the latest ffdshow tryouts (+ haali mkv splitter if you are playing mkv files) and try it in windows media player directly. |
