Is there any way to blur the output of Kodi? - DJ_Izumi - 2020-03-23

So I'm using an mini PC with HDMI out a 480i CRT via a HDMI to Component adapter.  The thing is, the on screen menues and some HD content, sharp lines effectively flicker harshly.  Kodi is outputing 1024x768 and the converter is then kicking that into 720x480i.  Lower resolutions don't quite work right, the miniPC only does DP output, I'm using a DP to HDMI converter,  At 480p the DP port actually outputs 1280x720 with the low res image in a frame and some other nonsense.  So 1024x768 is the best 4:3 resolution.  SD content on the machine of course looks fine cause it's softer.  Is there any way to soften EVERYTHING on Kodi?  I realize the answer is likely 'Hell no, no one has ever needed that', but worth an ask, right?

Well, if you know the answer, why ask the question..? Rofl

So, no not really. Going back in time (which any CRT screen basically means) is not Kodi's motto. I know that Kodi struggles with 1024x768 output which I did some years ago, because the default Estuary skin is already designed for 1280x720 resolutions and upwards. Going 480i on a CRT... *ouch*. I would use a smartphone as a remote for selecting your Kodi tasks as much as possible, so you won't have to look at the GUI menus on that small screen. Videos tend to be just fine on smaller screens.

Hey now, just because you're pretty sure, doesn't mean you're certain. Smile

Honestly, Confluence at 480i is pretty okay even if the aspect ratio is a bit off, it's navigable.  The core problem is very fine lines resulting in flicker and it's unpleasent.
