How to stop Kodi from creating nfo file after show is watched - rickm - 2020-05-02

This might be related to leia 18.6, since I just upgraded from krypton recently. I've never seen this happen before.

Kodi is creating an nfo file in the folder with the video file at the end of watching. Simple tests show that one is also created when the status us set to "watched" manually in the UI. It's odd because watching remotely with the current version of yatse does this, but watching from another instance of kodi does not (the server uses an SQL database to share). The nfo file contains tags for playcount, watched and lastplayed.

There's an entry in the kodi log exactly when the nfo file is created. It just says:
Quote:"WARNING: SMBFile::OpenForWrite() called with overwriting enabled!"

I like having the watched status set, but I don't like these nfo files being created. I've been running Kodi for several years and haven't ever used nfo files for anything. I've looked through various config screens but can't find anything that controls this.

Do you have the Metadata addon by @sualfred installed? If yes, disable nfo writing in the addon settings.

Yes, that was it. Thank-you so much! I had installed it recently since it was called "Metadata Editor" and didn't realize it was tied to nfo files. Pasting into the editor doesn't seem to work on my Linux machine (I wanted to enter episode synopses) so I've uninstalled now.
