BDMV folder: Load external local .srt subtitle - MrNice - 2020-08-14

Kodi version 18 or 19
From this thread without answer

Is there any way in Kodi (with or without an add-on) to automatically load index.srt subtitles (or any other .srt subtitles file) while starting playing a BluRay folder?
I am not interested in subtitle downloading services solution. All my subtitle files are local.
I know I can open external subtitles manually through audio/language menu but this is not easy.
Even if Kodi doesn't play it directly, it could add it in the sub list and I just have to press the L key to select it.

If it's possible please point me the howto or let me know what to name the .srt and where to place it.
Thanks

Well, after 9 days and 240 views, no answer, no comment...
Why?
1 - Nobody can understand my question because my English is very bad
2 - This is a stupid question
3 - Everybody know that, I should
4 - It's easy to find the answer in the web or in the Kodi FAQ
5 - Nobody uses an external subtitle file
6 - Nobody uses a BD folder structure (BDMV)
7 - Nobody uses an external subtitle file with a BD folder structure
8 - Nobody want to answer me because I am a bad guy Devil
9 - Nobody uses Kodi Huh

Please, pick your figure and let me know

I hope you enjoyed to read me (I am not a bad guy, I hope so!)
Have a good day!

I pick 6 and 7.

But having tested about 15 variations of subtitles and locations where they are saved, I conclude that the feature is broken.

For some reason, when playing a Bluray folder movie, external subtitles are not automatically loaded. .ass subtitles are not recognised, but .srt subtitles are.

I have found that Kodi is looking for the subtitles in \Wolverine\BDMV\PLAYLIST\, which is a strange place to be looking. But even when the srt file is there, it won't read it. You have to select it. I used a forced subtitle to test this. 0000.eng.forced.srt

Maybe @jjd-uk might have an idea.

Same 6 & 7 as all my Bluray rips are mkv's and in addition I never had need use external subs.

Did you submit a bug report?  I can't see any about sub and BDMV.
BTW do you know what should be the name of the .srt file and where to place it?

I don't use blurays folders and subs so not something that affects me, so I'll leave it up to you to report it. When you do report it, I will mark it as confirmed by a team member.

I think it should be placed next to the index.bdmv file and should be named index.eng.forced.srt (for example)

If something is broken and it is not exactly a feature request please open an issue in GitHub with clear instructions on how to reproduce. Otherwise I doubt anyone will ever look into it.
