SFTP addon is slow on macOS and Android (phone) - Loony24 - 2021-02-14 Hello everybody, I have an issue with the SFTP add-on. It seems to be super slow, the transfer rate is below 0.5 MBytes/s which makes streaming of video files basically impossible. This is my setup: - Home "server" running Windows 10 (latest release and all up to date) and OpenSSH 8.1p1 beta from here: https://github.com/PowerShell/Win32-OpenSSH/releases - Internet connection has 50 Mbit/s upload and a real IPv4 WAN IP address (also IPv6; Dual Stack Lite) - Port 22 is open and forwarded - Dynamic DNS URL is provided by the manufacturer of my router, I can ping it and the access via SSH/SFTP is working - All clients mentioned in this post connect to my server via internet, no LAN/WiFi connections here A working example: I set up a clean Kodi 18.9 without any additional add-ons on Windows 10 on my father's PC and installed the SFTP add-on from the original Kodi repository. Adding the SFTP source and importing videos worked like a charm. Playing back videos from my home server via internet works without any stuttering and/or buffering. Just perfect! But on other machines, I experienced issues. I installed a clean Kodi 18.9 on my brother's iMac 27" running macOS 10.13.6 (High Sierra). It's from mid 2010, but still powerful enough for decoding H.265, I checked that beforehand with a locally stored file. No stuttering or buffering at all. Not so with SFTP: - For some reason the SFTP add-on can't connect to the dynamic DNS URL so I used the WAN IP address of my home server instead - Using terminal and pinging the URL works fine, it shows the IP address and there's no connection issues or packet losses - Using the IP instead of the URL in Kodi, adding files to the video library works, scraping works as well, so far so good - Playing video files does work, but the playback stutters after just a few seconds - Copying a video file via SFTP to the iMac's hard drive using Kodi's built-in file manager is super slow (>0.5 MBytes/s) - Copying a video file with FileZilla via SFTP to the iMac is as fast as expected --> ~4 MBytes/s To rule out that the iMac might have an issue, I installed Kodi as described above on two different Android phones. Same problem, no luck. I don't know if this helps, but my brother's internet connection has a IPv6 WAN IP address. My father has IPv4 and IPv6, just as I do. I'm not an expert, but could it be possible that the SFTP add-on might have an issue with IPv6-only connections? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! |
