is it possible to use both the play button and the pause button to unpause a video (on the remote)?

you could map the play button to the pause action. note however that this will mean that pressing play while the movie is playing will pause the movie (don't know if this is what you're after). it will also resume the movie when pressing play.
you just need to add <remote>play</remote> under the <remote>pause</remote> line.
so yes, you can have 2 buttons mapped to the same action.

any chance of having an "unpause" option so that we can map it so that play can unpause but not pause playback?
also, what happened to fast forward and rewind?
now xbmc needs some tivo style video playback timeline overlay action!
