C:/ appears as source - vRUN - 2008-08-23

Hi xbmc folk,

1. let me state that I simply love xbmc - but since my (t)rusty old XBOX got somewhat sidelined I haven't used it much. But the news that xbmc will run in UBUNTU and/or WIN now made me come back. - THANKS GUYS YOU ARE GREAT -

Now my first check is on XP (Atlantis alpha 3 (2008-08-12 12:30))
Looks as known and loved ... "mousing" around needs a bit getting used to ;-)
- Finding the user settings took "a few minutes".

PROBLEM:
Only problem I have now (except from minors) is that
"C:/" is always added as a media source - which I clearly do not want :confused2:
...I only use smb sources from our local net...
- I checked my user settings and there is nothing under mediasources.xml and sources.xml
- I did quite some FAQ reading and searching around (difficult for c:/ and sources ;-)

...if you find this is a BUG I'd be glad to report it as such...

Thanks

Damn ... of course I mean to say:

C:\

(using Linux too much these days)

added where? to all media sections?

...I tested with music only -> I put in an "smb://" source only
when I scanned the files in flat "non database mode", I noticed that all directories from "C:\" were visible too (ex.: documents an settings)
-> "C:\" automatically added ?

...after I posted, I checked "videos" too
-> no unadded directories ... seems OK

--> so the answer to your question is "NO" Big Grin

Thanks for the good work BTW!

please elaborate on what you mean exactly? "scanned"? how did you scan?

smb:// will find all computers and all shared folders. you were probably looking at "documents and settings" on another computer.

Sry if I did not make myself clear.
"scanned" is supposed to mean that I was manually going through my music files one after the other ... and under "d" I found "documents and settings" from the local PC listed.
The only source I entered and the only one that is shown is:
smb://192.168.1.111/music/
and NO ... the local PC's IP is 192.168.1.10

Nope. I do know my network. It was the local PC ;-/
And NO ... I am not dumb enough to share C:/ on any PC.
I make a living from network stuff ;-)

Thanks for you efforts... Big Grin
can I look at something other than the "source" screen on what XBMC thinks is used as source ?Sad

Just installed
Atlantis - Alpha 4 Notes (2008-08-23 21:18)
downloading the .exe and starting, answering everything with yes,yes,yes...

I still find documents..., programs, and all my local "C:/rootdirectories" listed among the music directories...

<sigh>

There seems to be a misunderstanding here. Perhaps you could post screenshots that show your issue?

no ill-intent meant. if u read the forums, you'll see what we deal with on a regular basis. please post a screen shot as i cannot believe this. also, elaborate on the exact path you're taking when you see these.

- jmarshall - 2008-08-25

This is fixed in SVN already. The problem was that blank paths were being interpreted as a root path.

- kraqh3d - 2008-08-25

ah, i noted this. a blank path would be interpreted as the root where xbmc.exe was found.
