Why on earth is "video played" info skin-dependent? - hasenbein1966 - 2021-08-26

Hello folks,

I don't use library functions, I just play videos over the file menu.
When a video (e.g. an episode of a series) has been completely played it is marked as such.
BUT!! when I change the skin to another one these markings are gone!

I find this behavior annoying and incomprehensible.

Features like "video has been played" or "video can be resumed at XX:YY" should be integral part of Kodi itself and not be skin-dependent!

When is it planned to fix that?

Or am I doing something wrong? Or is there an option in Kodi to correct this behavior?

Thanks in advance,
Hasenbein

No fix needed. Watch & Resume status are part of core Kodi functionality. Thus, skin-independent.

Please name the 2 skins.

One option that your video statuses are no longer working is that you have a corrupted video database.
But without inside information such as a debug log (wiki), we can only speculate.

Thread moved to a more generic forum section.

Kodi provides skins the means to display watched / in progress status.  I don't think skinners want Kodi to force display of overlay images.

Just to mention it. The OP says, that he doesn't use any library funkctionality Wink . So there's no "video database".

Well, that's too bad for OP / @hasenbein1966 , because Kodi ALWAYS uses some video database/library functionality. Whether he likes it or not.

@DaVu you are forgetting that some data for all video file playback gets stored in the video database, even if these files have not been scraped to create a video library with movies or TVshows etc. So watched and "in progress" data is available for video files that have been played, up to the skin to show it or not.

Perhaps he is switching to a skin that does not show this, although that seems unlikley. I would guess that he is doing something more than just switching skin, but without more information I don't see how anyone can help.

Estuary and Confluence both show the watched status for non-library video files; my skin (fTV) however doesn't because I assumed the non-library video list didn't need it.

I will update it now though.

Perhaps @OP can still tell us which skins this all is about. Perhaps more skins are affected.
