Removing subtitle stroke / outline using DialogSubtitles.xml - ShebeerPrince - 2021-10-02
Is there any way to remove this annoying black subtitle stroke by editing the
DialogSubtitles.xml file?In my case, it is located at
AppData\Roaming\Kodi\addons\skin.cosmic\xml\.It looks like
<shadowcolor>black</shadowcolor> is what decides this strokebut changing that to white, blue or even deleting the color doesn't actually change how the way subs are displayed.
I don't know if it's just me who hates it, but it would have been so much peaceful without it. It is even pixelated and looks very old school, especially in TV.

That is nothing to do with the skin in use, it should be the same whatever skin you use as the Kodi core provides that. I don't believe it's possible to remove that in v19 and below, however subtitles are receiving asubstantial rework for v20 and I believe this will be possible once that is complete.

Actually I got a reply in Reddit from someone who said he achieved something like I wanted by editing the said xml file but in previous version of Kodi. That's why I actually posted here, thinking that is possible in Matrix too.
Anyway, let's wait for v20 then.

By the way, is there any place where we can get news about next version (like you got) from Devs, or is it just inside information that you have?

This feature is being added here https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/20169
Will for sure be part of v20. It will be in nightlies once the PR gets merged
