movies with nfo name same as folder name not recognised - narf! - 2022-04-11

Hello!
For some time now kodi didn't recognise a lot of movies.
folder structure:
Moviename.Year.RLS
-Moviename.Year.RLS.mkv
-Moviename.Year.RLS.nfo

the nfo file is from the release and not kodi relevant.

when i delete this nfo file kodi is able to scrape the movie.
is there a workaround for this or do i really need to delete/rename the file manually?

afaik movie.nfo and tvshow.nfo are/(were?) used to "link" a Movie to a moviedb entry. does the same happen with the nfo when it shares the same name as the moviefile itself?

best regards

It has the nfo extension, so Kodi expects it to be Kodi-compatible and will try to decipher its contents. if you don't want that, rename the nfo files. There are plenty of file renaming tools out there if you need to rename lots of files.

Why would you need to keep unusable files in the Kodi environment anyway, or keep all the 'release' details in your filenaming. Is it to keep the files available in newsgroups?

i don't need the nfo files, they are in the archive(s) and are unpacked with the rest of the release (movie, nfo, subs). so (until now) i just left the nfo files where they were.
deleting them would be (will be) an extra step, i'll take a look if there's a way to automate this step.
