Switching from Microsoft Store to Standalone: MKV H.265 not working, H.264 working? - Undertaker555 - 2022-09-18 Well, as it is in the thread title: I used the Microsoft Store version of KODI, then decided to go for the Standalone version for Windows. So I switched, but I'm experiencing a problem: MKV files are not playing anymore. The files were all scanned with the Setting "Local Information Only" and worked without any problems before. In all other programs the MKV files work fine, and before in the Microsoft Store version of KODI it worked too. So what happened there, and how can I fix it? I searched a bit in Google and in the Forums, but it was quite frustrating, because the tags only gave me completely wrong threads that are not even close to what I'm searching for. More informations: 1. When I removed KODI from the Microsoft Store, I also went into all the %appdata% folders and deleted all remaining folders before installing the Standalone version. 2. KODI kind of plays the MKV files though, but its only sound, no video and instead it shows like a black hole of my screen, with the mouse cursor flickering and cloning itself million times. Eventually after a few seconds it will stop to "buffer" and is stuck at 100% buffer. EDIT: Solution in reply number 3. KODI doesn't play MKV after switching from Microsoft Store to Standalone - Karellen - 2022-09-18 To receive meaningful assistance you will need to provide a full debug log. The instructions are here... debug log (wiki) If you are using the Basic Method, then ensure the following is applied... 1.Enable debugging in Settings>System Settings>Logging, 2.Restart Kodi 3.Replicate the problem. 4.Upload the log to Kodi Paste Site manually or use the Kodi Logfile Uploader. (wiki) With either method post the link to the log back here. If you are using the Advanced Method ensure you have correctly created and applied the advancedsettings.xml file (wiki) In both instances, you should see the word DEBUG throughout the log. Note: Full logs only. No partial or redacted logs Do NOT post your logs directly into the forum. Use the Kodi Paste Site. Post the link to your pasted log in the forum RE: KODI doesn't play MKV after switching from Microsoft Store to Standalone - Undertaker555 - 2022-09-18 Thanks for the reply. I will do that later as I'm not with the device right now. But in my first post I forgot to say something: I observed, that some MKV work and some won't. The difference between them is H.264 is working and H.265 is not working. Maybe that will help later, because it seems that it is a HEVC problem. EDIT: I have great news!!! While I was away, I read a bit more about the issue and googled some other words, now HEVC and specifically H.265, and when I got back, I tried the solution and it works! It works now thanks to reply 3 in this thread: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=365222 Solution is: Settings -> Player -> Video -> Allow hardware acceleration - DXVA2 [DISABLE IT] Thanks anyway for the help!
