Teletext sync issue - skris88 - 2022-09-28 Hi, I am using Kodi 18.6 on Linux Mint 20.3 with all updates current. I am using NextPVR to capture free-to-air TV off my HDHOMERUN DVB-T tuners. We have a need for closed captions for hard of hearing viewers and so enable Teletext on playback - but on Kodi they are out of sync by about 6 seconds. But if the same recordings are played using VLC, the Teletext timings are 100% accurate. Kodi's 10 foot interface is far superior, so what can I change to make closed captions sync correctly? Here is a link to both files playing at the same time with apps at default settings https://photos.app.goo.gl/gxrwZRAcWJp3T1uPA Thanks! RE: Teletext sync issue - enen92 - 2022-09-30 Note Kodi 18.6 is no longer supported/maintained (no one will care about fixing or verifying behaviour on such an outdated version). s there any way you can check if the issue persists using a recent nighly? Use the PPA for linux (https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc/+archive/ubuntu/xbmc-nightly) or the testbuilds in the mirrors for other OSs (https://mirrors.kodi.tv/nightlies/) If the issue still persists in v20 can you record a small sample so someone could try to understand the issue? Thanks RE: Teletext sync issue - skris88 - 2022-10-02 Hi Thanks for your reply. I installed Kodi 18.6 off my Software Manager and did not realise it was so old. I managed to uninstall that and install Kodi build 20.0-ALPHA3 with your PPA instructions. Played those recordings again but the problem remains. My original post included a link to the issue (the recorded file being played by VLC and Kodi, with Kodi some 6 seconds too early re Teletext closed captions. Here is the link again to that capture: https://photos.app.goo.gl/gxrwZRAcWJp3T1uPA Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Teletext sync issue - enen92 - 2022-10-03 When I asked for the sample I meant the actual video file (2 minutes will do) not exactly a Screencast of the problem RE: Teletext sync issue - skris88 - 2022-10-07 Hi Sorry for this delayed reply (I was away). Here is a link to a recording with Closed Captions. You should be able to download the file. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eC7VIWRRzLkmZeIDvolPASiCK8--655n/view?usp=sharing In Kodi I press the Teletext icon and type in 801. In VLC I click on the Teletext icon (it opens page 801 automatially). Thanks! Teletext sync issue - enen92 - 2022-11-18 Sorry for the delay, somehow I missed your response/sample. Thanks. At the moment there is no way of having auto sync for the Teletext subtitles, they are displayed as they arrive. We also don't handle them like the other subtitles, requiring to have the Teletext window on top of the osd. I'll see if I can somehow improve it or make them just like any other type of subs (Teletext subs are available in my country as well). The best you can have atm to auto adjust the subtitle delay in teletext is hit left/right (granularity of 1 second) when in the subtitle page. I don't think this feature was ever documented anywhere Kodi currently crashes if you do that though. Also sometimes you need to hit enter/select for the subs to be refreshed. I've issued this PR (https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/22161) which hopefully fixes both of those issues but the Teletext subtitles experience is still far from optimal.. Cheers RE: Teletext sync issue - skris88 - 2022-11-20 Hi "enen92" Thank you for the response. Will try that patch you posted. In the meantime I will try just using the + and - keys to try and sync the timing. The only issue was that once teletext is On, I don't see how I can use the Left Right direction keys to skip forward and backward on the video (one of the best implementations of Skip by Kodi - especially if compared with VLC). Also, maybe I am imagining this, but wasn't there a way to make Kodi use VLC as it's video player (or was that some other app/combination)? If that can be done it might solve the problem too. Sure I will use the fancy Skip function of Kodi, but at least we get to keep the 10 foot interface. Thanks! Best regards, Kris |
