KODI 20 PBS Subtitles scroll off top of screen - rants - 2023-01-21
Using Matt Huisman's PBS add-on, I have noticed an incompatibility with the new subtitle system. The subtitles will start at the bottom of the screen and then each subsequent line is added higher up until there is no room left. I assume any new subs are trying to display up above the top of the screen so one never sees them. This happens on both an Android box and Windows 10 using Kodi 20 with the new subtitle system. Does not happen when rolled back to 19.5.

I did drop him a line on twitter.
That being said, I have seen the "double" subtitles on Pluto streams going back months even on version 19. This is new behaviour, only on version 20, and it doesn't "double" the subs, it causes them to display up to the top of the screen and then disappear forever. Even if I turn the subs off and then back on, they don't come back. I'm assuming that the new Kodi subtitle system is trying to draw them off the top of the screen.
It only seems to happen on PBS streams, not Pluto, and I haven't tried Disney+. Maybe there is something going on with Inputstream adaptive, as PBS streams do require it.
To be clear, I'm in no hurry to jump to 20, 19.5 is working fine. Just pointing out a bug.
