I was hoping to get more clarity and information on a few Kodi video settings. - Tom Tucker - 2023-02-12

Hello! I am using the ZDMC fork on a Zidoo Z9X. I had a few questions on some of the video settings that I cannot seem to get an answer for:

1. My TV is a LG C1 OLED. It has an option called "Cinema Screen" which apparently uses 5:5 pulldown to take 24p content and multiply frames x5 to hit the 120hz native refresh rate of the panel. My question is; in the Kodi settings, there is a "enable 4:3 pulldown" option. Do I need to use this or is this only helpful for 60hz TVs that don't handle Judder well? I have match frame rate selected so I will be sending the TV a 24hz signal.

2. Can someone explain what "sync playback to display" does and if I want to use this? I have match frame rate selected. My TV is a 120hz panel.

3. How does the "hq scalers" options work? I don't understand the description. If I want ZDMC to scale everything up to 4k, which % do I select? What if I wanted my TV to do the upscaling? Then what would I select?

Thank you!

1. was there something wrong with the zidoo forum? http://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php
2. i hope you find someone here that has that tv otherwise all that nonsense means nothing to me
3. the wiki has a lot of information, sync playback: https://kodi.wiki/view/Settings/Player/Videos#Sync_playback_to_display
4. HQ scalers: https://kodi.wiki/view/Settings/Player/Videos#Enable_HQ_scalers_for_scaling_above

heres an additional link that can be useful: https://duckduckgo.com/

Sorry, but we do not provide support to 'forks' or 'builds' of Kodi from 3rd party developers. You will need to contact them instead of the Kodi forum.

Nonsense...? Also, you have currently disabled PM messages as well as your email account on the Kodi forum, so I can only ask this question publicly.

Just like https://www.google.com ?

oh hi @Klojum

2 parts on the nonsense i do actually hope he finds someone with that tv since he wants settings that best pertain to it, the rest well seems like he's just strung together a bunch of specs and i could not make sense of it - nonsense

yes just like google, i dont personally like google so i tend to recommend duckduckgo, they serve the same purpose, i added that as an afterthought because the 2 answer links i did provide came from there and maybe he could find more answers in that fashion

PMs were forced on (by someone with mod powers) so anytime you wish to use them i will receive them (and reply as needed)

TL;DR. It alters the playback speed of the video. It's usually sped up to match the tv refresh rate. If you are playing 23.967fps content on a 50Hz display, playback speed is increased by 4%. (normal for tv broadcasts in Australia)
But to achieve this, audio passthrough is disabled.

FWIW, this is not nonsense. "Sync playback to display" can help smooth out videos when a video's frame rate is not supported by the TV/display. A typical video will run at 23.976, 23.978, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50 upto 60 fps. Not all displays have support for all these frame rates (although the newest TVs might). So, with the option Kodi may put in an extra frame every now and then to make up for the closed matched frame rate of the display. Also, the outcome of this setting can very per graphics soc/gpu. My previous Intel box didn't like it while an Nvidia box was okay with it using the same TV.

Okay, probably done recently after I checked.

I just tried sync playback to display and it makes a huge difference like you said.

I'm in the US with a native 60hz tv ("120hz" with motion smoothing available), and tried watching The IT Crowd, which is filmed at 25fps, with the setting off, the video judder is unbearable, with the setting on, it looks like any other show.
