Update Library scans old files too - davelee77 - 2023-04-04

So, I'm currently using Nexus 20.0.0. Although this has happened in last couple versions as well. When I add a few new video files to movies or TV shows at the source, when I use scan for new content OR update library, it WILL scan the new files just fine, but also continues to scan in the ballpark of 3 other files that have been there for quite some time and have been accessed and watched. I'm trying to find a way for it to not scan those, without having to add the .txt file or removing the files in queston. Because, for example, if it's scanning tv shows, They will have future seasons and episodes. So I don't want to eliminate them completely. I'm a novice so if you need me to provide any data, tell me what it is and if you need debug files or anything, please direct to how to do so. Thank you very much.
I.E. new file: NCIS Season 20 Episode 17. Scans and adds this as it should but also scans old file: I Am Groot (2022).

@davelee77

I am not understanding the problem.
You are scanning NCIS Season 20 Episode 17 but then it adds a duplicate of I Am Groot (2022) into your library? Now you have two episodes of I Am Groot (2022) in your library?
Or is it that I Am Groot (2022) was never in your library and you don't want it to be scraped into your library?

RE: Update Library scans old files too - davelee77 - 2023-04-04

To clarify, I had I Am Groot (2022) added back in, let's just say, November 15, 2022. I've watched them all, they are marked as watched. They remain in my source files because A. I want to keep them and B. If they ever add more I'd like it to remain.

Yesterday, I added NCIS Season 20 Episode 17 to my source files on harddrive. I enter Kodi and select "Update Library." When it goes to scan, it not only picks up the new episode and adds it but it also scans the additional file which is not necessary. Nothing changes about the files but it wastes time sitting their scanning for something it doesn't need to. Hopefully I explained the issue a little more. It does this woth a few movies as well.

Not sure if I added pics correctly. I tries to add a video but didn't work.

So you are saying that you watched I Am Groot (2022) then you deleted it from the Kodi library, now when you use Update Library I Am Groot (2022) keeps getting added back in? Is that correct?
If it is correct, then that is normal. You have unscraped items in your Source folder for Kodi, which means Kodi will add them into the library.

Close but no. I don't delete them. I watch them and they remain in the source folder. If it were normal for Kodi to do this then why would it not do it for the 20 other TV shows and the 100's of other movies every single time? It is basically scanning I Am Groot (2022) as though it were newly added and it's not. For TV Shows it is only doing that one. In Movies there are a couple of others it does this with.

I can't quite get it.
You don't delete them from your file system. But do you delete them out of Kodi library? Were they ever in the Kodi Library?
Do you know the difference between the Kodi Library and the Source folder?

RE: Update Library scans old files too - davelee77 - 2023-04-04

Yes, I am familiar with the difference. When I originally downloaded them, they were in my source folder. Then when I went into Kodi, just as I am doing now with NCIS, I selected "Update Library." This added them to the Kodi Library. Then I watched the episodes. They remained in source folder AND Kodi Library and there has never been any deleting of these files. Every time I add a new episode to my source folder and select "Update Library" when it scans for new content, it scans the new files AND I Am Groot (2022). Another I.E.
I download NCIS S20E16 > Enter Kodi > select "Update Library." It scans and picks up the new episode of NCIS and it scans I Am Groot (2022) but nothing about those files change. I can still go to it in Kodi and watch it any time I would like.
A week later, I download NCIS S20E17 > Enter Kodi > select "Update Library." It scans and picks up the new episode of NCIS and it scans I Am Groot (2022) again.
A week later, I download The Mandalorian S03E05 > Enter Kodi > select "Update Library." It scans and picks up the new episode of The Mandalorian and it scans I Am Groot (2022) but nothing about those files change.

But I asked you that and you did not answer me...

Ok, provide a Debug Log that captures this problem and I can try to see why it is doing that.

RE: Update Library scans old files too - davelee77 - 2023-04-04

I do feel this has become much more confusing than is necessary. No additional files are added. No files get deleted but it appears to scan it when adding new files and it takes 2 minutes to complete the scan vs 30 secs if it were to just add the new episode each week.

I will try to figure out the debuging thing and bring this back with me. Unfortunately, It's 2:18am here and I heading to sleep. Be back later today with what you are asking for. Thank you for your help.

I reviewed the information for debug log. Unfortunately, I'm not fully understand what the exact steps are that I am supposed to follow. It looks like I need to install some type of debug upload tool? Then I am supposed to only use the specific link for posting the debug file, not here. Then from there, I don't understand how to get the I fo from the uploaded in kodi from my firestick to the proper url? I apologize for being so difficult. I typically do better with 1,2,3 A,B,C than instructions that have lots of wording and so forth. I also saw something in the advanced option that indicates I'll need a keyboard. I have a wireless Bluetooth keyboard that works through my firestick I can try to use as well. I'm sorry for my lack of understanding this. I was hoping I could just click something in Kodi and take a pick of it or save it and then upload it to the proper url location but it seems to be more complicated? Thank you for trying to help. I wish I could understand this better.

Ok. I may or may not have figured it out? Do I post the url here? https://paste.kodi.tv/itukomulux lines 911-978 were during the time I tried to "Update Library." Please let me know! I hope I did this right. Thank you.

Close, but you did not enable debug mode in Settings>System>Logging. So not enough info.

Oh. That's weird cause I went and did that. Do I need to log out of Kodi and back in? I think I saw something about that. I'll go back and read the link again. Will have to revisit tomorrow again. Sorry. And thanks for your help and patience.

RE: Update Library scans old files too - Karellen - 2023-04-05

If you don't see the counters in the top left of the screen, then debug mode is not enabled.
