How to backup Kodi build to usb drive - ScotTk - 2024-05-26

Hello everyone, I've tried to use openwizard and backup addons to backup all my addons and skin settings to a usb drive, but they both give me errors, has anyone successfully backed up kodi on Xbox before or is it not possible?

Sadly, we can provide no support for any system that has that addon installed - it's on our list of banned addons (wiki) simply because we've no idea what damage it can cause to your Kodi installation. I don't use Kodi on Xbox enough to know, but I suspect you'd be better off using the in-built file manager to copy your profile onto USB and then copy it back to the target system as required.

I won't send this thread to the bin, as I suspect you're asking for legitimate help, but be aware that any issues with your system while that addon is in place will result in, well, crickets.

Sorry I wasn't aware about the openwizard addon, but what about the official backup addon from kodi repository? I don't know if it's possible with a file manager since xbox doesn't show you anything to copy, or that's as far as I'm aware of.
Should I provide logs of the error or any tips on how to properly do the process?

I finally found the solution, if anyone stumbles upon this forum post, here's how you can backup Kodi on Xbox Series X and other variants:
  1. Search for Adv File Explorer in the Microsoft Store and install it
  2. Once you open Adv File Explorer it will ask you to download the FullTrust version, click on see in Microsoft Store and install Adv File Explorer (FullTrust)
  3. After it finishes installing, open Adv File Explorer (FullTrust), which will be in your games section instead of apps
  4. On the side menu click on Quick Access, then Local
  5. Navigate to Packages>XBMCFoundation.Kodi
  6. There's a folder called LocalState, which includes all your addon and skin settings
  7. Copy and paste the entire LocalState folder into your usb flash drive and you're good to go.
I was able to paste this backup into the Microsoft Store version of Kodi on Windows and everything was functioning perfectly on the windows version as well.
