IR server suite problems - tytherman - 2008-09-24

Having searched the forums for using a mce remote and receiver for controlling XBMC, I am a little unclear as to:

1.how the majority of users control xbmc if not via remote
2. assuming you want to use a remote.... say MCE, as it has everything you want then you have to download a hack that is IR server suite.

NOw this is where my problems start.... if I use the "system" file instead of mine that came with the app I cant play videos, pictures or music, changing it back seems to work fine

secondly with IR suite installed I get a error message saying the Media center receiver has encountered a problem..... if i uninstall no error, but I can use it in XBMC.

lastly I have a usb UIRT and logitech 885 learning remote so if there is a simpler way then great, and maybe someone could nudge me in the right direction.

not sure if this helps or not, but i have one particular setup where i use irrs to map keys from keyboard to button presses.

the program to do it is in the suit.

therefore i get same basic functionality as a keyboard, just remotely.

regards,
Dam0

thanks for this....

after I reinstalled the ir server suite I only had the error once, so will persist with this until a more stable solution is posted. All seems to work fine, albeit still struggling with getting XBMC to start by pressing the green button, although there is a post on that..... mind you the caveat at the bottom strikes me as this is still a hack. Cant wait till XBMC natively supports a remote..... dont shoot me down if it does, I just have not found it yet!

I would also be interested to know what remote(s) - if any - XBMC supports by default, without requiring the installation of 3rd party software, such as IRSS?
