Is it possible to start a video from X seconds using a .STRM file? - Sylfest - 2024-08-27

Hello everyone.
As the title says. I'm wondering if it's possible to start a video from X seconds and X minutes using .STRM file. Alternative would be to start from a specified chapter.
What I want to play is local videos from NAS using SMB. No online streams.

an example:
smb://myNAS/giant discdrive/Movies/Best Movie of the Year (2024).mkv
Then start at say 10 minutes in.

Sorry if this has been answered before. I tried to search for this on the forum and the wiki.

THX
Robert

Is the start time always the same, or are you looking for some type of random start time each time the video plays?
I wouldn't use a strm file. Instead I would use an edl file if it is the same start time each time... https://kodi.wiki/view/Edit_decision_list

Yes, start time would be the same for one movie every time, but different start time for different movies. I like to watch specific parts of movies late saturday nights. Some of which is hard to find and remember where they are in the movie after a few drinks.

Great!!
Your other option is to embed chapter markers in the video file. Very, very easy to do in mkv files.

Thanks again. This will work fine for me. You may mark this as solved now.

For anyone else reading this.
I used the "Scene Marker" in an .EDL file next to the movie

Best Movie of the Year (2024).edl
example of one file:
7:00    2
25:03    2
35:07    2

that will highlight the 3 scenes at those times in that video.
