"Radio": What's that menu for? - maugnugnu - 2024-10-06

Kodi v21.1 from current Debian testing repository here.

I humbly ask for forgiveness but after half a day of attempts I can't find a way to load a m3u playlist to populate the "Radio" menu; the "All channels" list remains empty (it shows only "..") no matter what I do (I'd like to post some screenshots but it seems impossible, sorry).

I found some add-on which adds itself to the "Music" menu... by adding the playlist to the "IPTV Simple Client" PVR, the radio channels show up into the "TV" menu, mixed with TV channels; tried to add the URL of the playlist as a new "source" in "settings/File manager" and tried add-ons to no avail; nothing appears in the "Radio" menu, whatever I do.

Can someone explain me how to add a playlist of radio streams in the "Radio" menu? Why can't I just do what I did to add a playlist of IPTV streams to the "TV" menu with the "IPTV Simple Client" PVR?

Thanks!

A forum search for "radio" in the PVR forum would have saved you some time https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=376747&pid=3189100

Of course it would if I wasn't a Kodi novice... indeed, I asked here because I couldn't find any useful info anywhere.

Thanks!

P.S.: wouldn't it have been more user friendly to allow the playlist content destination to be manually decided in the PVR settings? That way there would have been no need to edit m3u files to insert non-standard (and hard to discover) properties, and it would also have been possible to update the playlist automatically just like it happens for IPTV playlists...
