Just guessing, but maybe this version of Kodi requires a newer version of Android. (If so, it is surely unintentional, since a ".1" release shouldn't make such a major change).

Hi, thanks for noticing me. I checked, both versions downloadable from kodi.tv/download/android/ require SDK version 21 as a minimum, my TV Box is 23, it is indicated in the AndroidManifest.xml file included in the installation package of both ARMV8A and ARMV7A versions. So I tried an installation from scratch by uninstalling the previous version first. The ARMV8A version starts installing but then fails. The ARMV7A version installed. Now I have Kodi version 21.1 but it is still missing from my Google Play Store as if my TV Box is missing a required feature, but the required features listed in AndroidManifest.xml have not changed from the previous version, the only requirement is landscape orientation. Now I suspect it's a Store issue.

I was hoping the update would fix a Dolby Vision display issue for my TV Box, but it didn't.

Maybe they forgot to push the 32-bit version to the store?

I have a phone ARMV7A/SDK29 and you can get it from its PlayStore, then I also have another phone ARMV8A/SDK23 and also from its PlayStore you can get Kodi

Is this a self-help or support forum? Where are the developers or their representatives?

it's both, you will have contributors who are users helping other users but you will be required to perform at least some "self-help"
(2024-10-15, 16:59)Camerahead Wrote: Where are the developers or their representatives?

the developers typically stick to writing code and dealing with issue reports on github https://github.com/xbmc/
not sure what "representatives" you expect there to be, it is a community driven project where people spend their free time doing things for free - or not if that's their wish

this is a non-standard device which most people do not have so you are waiting for another user with the same device and issue, non-standard means not common so it could be a while and therefor some self-help will be needed

-----

using some of my own free time i made an effort to look up your device and found the specs here https://specdevice.com/showspec.php?id=87f0-6278-0033-c5870033c587
which lists android sdk version 23

on august 7th there was a change and the "target android version" was increased to 34, see here https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/25583

in my own speculation

i imagine the play store has determined that your device is not compatible with sdk version 34 and therefor is not going to deliver the app to your device

my own recommendation

install kodi manually following the directions from the wiki https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_for_Android
ensure to backup any settings/addons/etc that will be lost upon installing

-----

last note

be sure you have read Forum Rules specifically where it indicates respect for others contributing their time

have a great day and good luck

From whoom did you buy Kodi, and how much did you pay fo it?
If you want instant help you are on wrong place. Insist on prompt answear in the place where you purchased your Kodi, not here where help is purely volluntary.

You device is android 6.0.1 , min version is 14. I guess that's the reason u can't see it in the store.

The minimum supported version is 5.0 as I reported in the discussion, have you read it?

I also left a feedback on the PlayStore about its absence but not about the inability of version 21.1 to update my version 21.0.1 or the inability of the ARMV8A version to install

"Existing apps must target API level 31 or above to remain discoverable by all users on Google Play. Apps that target API level 30 or below (target API level 29 or below for Wear OS)."

So yeah I still stand by what I said. Maybe your box is too old for android min api level for kodi 21.0.1 from the play stores.

First of all I had installed version 21.0.1 from the Store, it hasn't been available since version 21.1, then the quote says that to be visible to everyone, the application must target the latest version of Android even if it was developed for an older version, I don't know what you read there?

RE: Can't update to version 21.1 - MrMagic - 2024-10-16

Did you read the PR that @izprtxqkft linked to?

It states "Target SDK will be required min 34 shortly by playstore". Your device is not level 34, so you're out of luck I guess.

There is no such thing as the minimum target version, there is the target version and the minimum version which is 21, and as I said I have a SDK23 phone that sees Kodi on its Play Store and I finally installed Kodi 21.1 on my Android 6 TV Box outside of the PlayStore. However I noticed that now the Kodi of the Store is in splitted APKs so I think the problem is that my app version of Google Play Store is outdated and does not support them, for this reason now I am trying to update the Play Store app but without success.
Please stop saying that Kodi is not compatible with versions lower than Android 14 because this goes against Kodi's interest. For now the minimum supported version is Android 5.
