[split] Manual mode for "Position on screen" - alex928gt - 2024-11-10

Hi all,

I'm in Manual mode for "Position on screen" but still, when changing my srt subtitles position thanks to ctrl+arrow up or ctrl+arrow down the resulting position is not saved whereas Kodi's wiki says:

Manual position
Allow to set subtitle position by using the Screen Calibration subtitle adjustment.
Allow to adjust position by using the Action ID's SubtitleShiftUp and SubtitleShiftDown [2] or shortcut keys.
The position, if changed, is permanently saved (persists over all videos or kodi reboot).

What am I doing wrong? Or is this a bug?

And, subsidiary question, in case this worked, where should the position data be saved to in order to persist and be re-used each time a movie is launched (media library, .xml file somewhere..)?

Thanks
Best regards,
Alex

In the OSD in the video menu under video calibration pull the subtitle line to chosen position, then set default for all media. Most of the position subtitle settings are saved to the userdata folder as guisettings.xml along with most other flags. Suggest if you're manually editing that file, ensure a back-up.

Thanks for your reply.

However what I'm looking for is a place where I could store dynamically - e.g. via a script - the wanted subtitles position for the movie I'm launching, based on its aspect ratio, and kodi using it right afterwards without quitting/relaunching Kodi.

The scenario would be:

- I select a movie that has specific characteristics - including its aspect ratio - stored in the media database
- A script - typically launched by PreShow experience after the selection of the movie - stores sowehere the position, or vertical margin, for the subtitles based on the movie aspect ratio
- Kodi plays the movie, using this position or vertical margin the script just set for this movie

What I understand is that currently I could launch such a script to store in guisettings.xml the position for the subtitles for this movie, but I would have to exit Kodi and relaunch it for it to take such position into account... In such conditions it is easier to just use ctrl+arrow up or ctrl+arrow down to adjust the position of my subtitles each time I launch a movie but I find it odd that in 2024 I have no other solution than adjusting manually this position at the start of each movie whereas the aspect ratio of the movie is available in my media database.

Thanks
