I can see many solutions out there for achieving digital movie poster using apps etc but most need unnecessarily excessive hardware such as PCs or subscriptions etc. I know that Kodi has the ability to automatically create slideshows from fanart that it downloads as library artwork. Could a small tweak be applied such that it downloads posters for new movies from a regularly updated source such as tmdb helper addon and then saves this to a folder and finally, rotates the images 90 degrees so that it can be played on a portrait-oriented tv by the same slideshow addon?

Most of the artwork in Kodi is gathered by the scraper or a 3rd party add-on, and placed within the library, some 3rd party managers etc. will place this with the movie folder as artwork. Within some skins, it's possible to do an image flip, but I haven't seen a 90 degree movement in a skin (of course I haven't tried them all), but windows itself has this capability, so given an artwork export via separate files you would be left with the artwork in the movie folder to manually rotate and re-scan.
A small tweak of the image rotation function within a skin might be do it, but that would be something the skins author would suggest, and you still might come up with size aspect/ratio limitations anyway. Artwork (wiki) I'm rife to suggest links outside the kodi world, but here we are.
