Skins and plugins... - erikss0n - 2008-09-28 Hi everyone, Let me just start to say that I am impressed by this software... coming from mediaportal which also worked but not as smooth and easy. I for sure will keep XBMC on my HTPC from now. I also want to say that I have no previous experience with XBMC and hope that I will not upset anyone when I ask some questions, I have really tried to find the answers to this on the forum but (call me stupid) have not yet found a solution. I have tried the "Live" CD-version and noticed the excellent "Mediatream" -skin which I really would like to have in my Atlantis-windows installation but how can I get it there? It seems that trying to copy the files to the skin-folder on my XP-machine gives a "Skipped 178 files" and trying the same on my Vista-machine it copies the files but there is no "Mediastream" -folder to be seen after copying has completed!? Anyone have the answer/solution or can forward me a link where this is explained? Can I install other plugins/scripts, and how do I do that? Impressed but a tiny bit frustrated after three days of trying to get the answer. Kindly, erikss0n - blittan - 2008-09-29 some is covered in the wiki.. download the mediastream as a whole from their website, see link in the mediastream subforum in the skinning section. sure you can add plugins/scripts .. http://www.xbmcscripts.com is hosting almost every script and the xbmc addons plugin covers most plugins.. this is changing in the near future with a totally new addons installer. - erikss0n - 2008-09-29 Thanks for your answer... I hope the addon-installer is not too far away because frankly, I have not yet understood how to install the skin yet. Anyone that can point me to an explanatory link in the wiki or elsewhere? Thanks for your time, erikss0n - DragonFly - 2008-09-29 There is no need to "install" a skin. For instance, get the Mediastream skin here: http://www.teamrazorfish.co.uk/mediastream.html or some others here: http://www.xbox-skins.net/forums/index.php?automodule=downloads&showcat=7&sort_by=DESC&sort_key=file_submitted&num=25 Usually copy the folder within the zip file to the skin folder of your XBMC installation and your done. As far as Plugins and Scripts concerns, there are still a lot of issues to get them to work on the windows platform. Some work, some don't. See http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=37684 for details. - erikss0n - 2008-09-29 Many thanks for your reply! I am at work for the moment (Yes, I know... I shouldn't hang here then I will do some testing later this evening, I just find it strange that I cannot see the 'mediastream' -folder once I have unzipped the folder with it's content to the ..\XBMX\Skin -folder. It's kind of bizarre since if I try to unzip the files once again it asks me if I want to replace the files!? I cannot remember seeing more than the 2 standard skins inside XBMC-config. but I'll have another look this evening. Thanks again... /erikss0n - DragonFly - 2008-09-29 Try a third party explorer tool like Totalcommander. It's got build-in Zip support and let's you view files the OS (if set) keeps hidden. It give you a far better overview of what's going on in your system than the standard explorer does. - erikss0n - 2008-09-29 Just want to say thanks to people that tried to help me... I went on my HTPC this evening and copied the mediastream folder to the 'skin'-folder and voila! Seems it was easy on my XP-machine but still is a problem on my VISTA-klient. Anyway, problem solved!
