so far i've been using xns (relax) or samba (/windows shares)

why is there so many choices, and what is the difference ?
why would anyone prefer one of them ?
is any one better/faster/...  than the rest ?

i'd like to hear some arguments...

(i know smb is awfully slow with >1000 items in ine folder)

i use smb casue you don't need any software to run it. and i can easily customize it in the xml. i used to use relax, but smb is nice especially over a home network of a few pcs, cause you can just share teh entire hard drive. with winxp i made a user called xbox and made him a backup operator, so you don't see him at teh start screen. and gave him read rights to the c drives....
