Slate Touch Screen XBMC Picture Frame (Linux, Windows) - osirisjem - 2009-11-25 I want to mount a slate PC (no keyboard) which is mostly monitor to my parent's wall. I need Wifi as I want to be able to login to the device and upload new pictures. I want the device to natively boot to XBMC (either Linux or Windows). I guess I would want Linux if it was more stable. This is mostly for pictures. Any ideas on hardware ? Obviously an Archos 9 would work (expensive)(especially for just an OS-powered picture frame). TechCrunch Inc. CrunchPad - looks perfect, but availability is limited. - osirisjem - 2009-11-25 Actually a cheaper option might be a Samsung Q1 Slate PCs - osirisjem - 2009-11-25 Here is a list of slate PCs .. all quite expensive mind you. http://www.umpcportal.com/2009/11/slates-slates-theyre-everywhere-theyre-in-the-water-theyre-in-the-air/ - osirisjem - 2009-11-25 Actually if I could easily FTP (or file transfer somehow) to an Android device ... this might be good. XBMC must support ARM - looks like someone is trying it ! http://xbmc.org/theuni/2009/10/23/xbmc-on-arm-gles-2-0/ Here is someone who likes the idea of Smart Q5 + XBMC http://xbmc.org/theuni/2009/10/23/xbmc-on-arm-gles-2-0/#comment-8526 Asus EeePC T91 - - osirisjem - 2009-11-25 CPU type Intel Atom (Silverthorne) CPU speed 1300 Mhz Graphics Intel GMA 500 OS Various Options Display Size 9", 1024 X 600 RAM 1024 MB - joe_user - 2009-11-27 Looks like I am not the only one with such an idea :-D That would be a great device for the kitchen to listen to music and watching videos for my wife. As long as the technic is hidden, she will accept it The Asus EeePC T91 is on my watch list aswell, just on. Just not sure if the touchscreen would work with Linux or if it requires Windows 7. Anyone knows? - LoloMc² - 2009-12-03 joe_user Wrote:Just not sure if the touchscreen would work with Linux or if it requires Windows 7. Anyone knows? Linux or Windows is not the problem. Touchscreen works like a mouse : If you touch the screen with your finger, you do a left click at this place. That's all ! Your problem is to find a suitable skin for (xbmc + touchscreen), because original skins are NOT designed to be compatible with touchscreen. While most of the skin are 50 to 90% usable with touchscreen (PM3-HD is a good exemple) some are not practical at all and some others can NOT be used AT ALL The most famous exemple is the "back" button. To understand what I mean, you have to know how to do a right click with a touchscreen : Keep you finger at the same place on the screen WITHOUT moving more than 2 mm for 1 entire second. This is the way to do a right click. This is nearly impossible to do (maybe 10% goal) If you want to understand perfectly the "back" button problem, try to navigate ONLY with your mouse WITHOUT using the right button. After one complete day, you'll search a way o introduce "back" buttons From my knowledge, there is only one complete skin made by Virtualhours on this forum which is suitable for touchscreen Regards, - joe_user - 2009-12-03 Hmmm, good point, LoloMc². Haven't thought about that. Perhaps I am already used to the Iphone with multitouch and gestures from Firefox. That's actually how I hoped it works. You know, pressing the screen and moving to the left should be a "back". Perhaps there is a plugin needed for inputs via touchscreen? - LoloMc² - 2009-12-04 joe_user Wrote:Hmmm, good point, LoloMc².I know very well the subject I made a mod for PM3-HD which included back buttons. It is outdated now but you can have a look at Virtalhour's job Obviously those solutions are monotouch joe_user Wrote:Perhaps I am already used to the Iphone with multitouch and gestures from Firefox. But for now, the picture viewer is still not usable with touchscreen... so stop dreaming joe_user Wrote:You know, pressing the screen and moving to the left should be a "back".
