New Linux XBMC box - DeadPenguin - 2009-12-14

I have been lurking here and other sites hoping I would find a box without having to bother anyone.
I am in the process of upgrading my homes entertainment network. Right now I use Apple Tv's and stream from a central WHS. I loaded XBMC on the ATV's and everything has been fine. I would like to upgrade to handle >720p content.
I have been watching all of the Atom/Ion boxes roll out. I am interested in one, but I am concerned they are not future proof and might not be able to handle the skins in the recent future.( I had the new Revo in my shopping cart at Newegg and chickened out. Oo )
I would like to build my own , but I am not sure how much power I need.
I have about $600, but I would like to come in between $300-$400. (because I will need to replace the ATV's one at a time)
Here are the parts I have been mulling over at newegg.
Zotac GF9300-G-E.($124)(has wake on USB) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813500035&cm_re=zotac_gf9300-_-13-500-035-_-Product
Intel Core2 Duo E7500 Wolfdale 2.93GHz ($119)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115056
2GB DDR2 800 ($50)
DVD Burner ($30)
HD ? - I am looking for something quiet.
Case ? - I couldn't find one I really liked at Newegg.
Remote - I have read a million treads here and I am still not sure what to look for in a Remote. ( I was hoping for one that "just works" in Linux)

Can you guys give me some suggestions on HD - CASE - and Remote?
I am still on the fence about the Revo. At
$330 I could get two and solve a lot of headaches.

Is there a working hardware section anywhere on the forum? or a place where people post their box specs?
-Thanks
DP

Just got a Revo 3610 off Ebay for $300. I will see how that goes.
Sorry for the long winded message above. I will be still looking to build one in the near future.
