i've been populating my network share with photos, and have found a few that will hang xbmc/xbox every time (either when trying to view them or generating thumbnails)..
this happens with both network (smb/xbms) and local access, my xbmc version is 2003-12-08 cvs. i've tried xbmp 2.4, and while it doesn't crash - it won't display the problem files. btw, the files display fine elsewhere...
any ideas would be welcome?

what resolution are these photos in? give as much detail about them as possible.

there are two jpgs of 2570x1935 and 6912x1331 pixels, both transferred from a mac. it must be something in the original encoding that xbmc doesn't like as i've just re-saved the images under linux and the new copies open fine (retaining the same file size and resolution etc). not sure why these ones in particular are giving problems though - as i have hundreds of files from the same source.
i have another eight or so images which i've just noticed are all tiff files (despite the .jpg extensions!
. i've created some more tiff's from working files and they all hang xbmc, so i suspect this is a more generic problem..
