[RELEASE] Library watchdog
@LinogeFly Please continue development on this to support network resources and i am willing to test as long as there is no risk of file loss. Please outline criteria for metric testing.

I have automation in place to periodically update my libraries, but if there is something in existance to actively monitor on my media server for changes, then I'm happy to dump those things as long as the watchdog replacement works well. It is preferred that those changes are only recorded or noticed when nfo files come into existence or removed and not the files themselves as files are moved onto a network resource and remain dormant until scanned by a media manager to create metadata and artwork info....only then would it be preferred that changes are picked up.

After all these years, I could never understand why this wasn’t just built into KODI by default. And then just to have so many of these broken and never fixed. It’s frustrating.

Agreed. It's kind of ridiculous at this point that it's not. We have the technology...

I tried the auto library update add on but thats not as good as it does not have option to auto clean library when files are deleted.

This is horrible Sad anyone able to "fork" it or see how to correct what's causing it to crash on latest Kodi builds?

No one seems to care so I wouldn't expect it working again in the immediate future.

That is so incredibly sad and echoing others it's crazy to think in 2024 it's still not natively in Kodi

Agreed. One of the few Addons I used.

It works fine on Kodi 21 for me. On beta 22 it detects new files but wont remove deleted files anymore.
The other add on is not as good as all its doing is running search on a cron, it cant remove deleted files either.

Not working for me in Omega anymore, new tv episodes are not getting picked up.

Actually, it DOES still work. For some reason, my tv source folder was set to "exclude path from library updates" - no idea how that happened.

Anyway, I noticed that for this add-on under video settings you can let it auto-detect sources or enter sources manually. Once you've manually entered sources, though, two things will happen:

  1. You can not remove that source easily anymore (I had to edit the settings.xml).
  2. Even if you toggle "Auto detect video sources" back ON, the add-on will still only poll the folder you've entered manually (and any sufolders recursively if activated). At least that's what's happened in my kodi-headless-docker. Since I wanted to save some minimal CPU time by no recusing ttwo depths I hadn't entered the top movie folder but the folders on the next sublevel (I have 13 genre folders there).

After realizing I needed more config options for this, I modded the add-on to accept up to 15 video sources (instead of only 10). I'm offering the mod HERE for anyone who might be interested. Hopefully my findings will be helpful to someone.

Thank you! Appreciate it. The add-on has never stopped working for me, but I found the source issue annoying.

Not sure how often someone's TV source folder would randomly be set to "exclude path from library updates" to cause this wide-spread issue of this addon not working.  It did however get me looking at this again, and I noticed that the addon's video sources setting was set to automatic and was reading in one of my other "Video" folder sources from my NAS that is not currently in my library.  The addon ran and threw an error into the KODI log and I discovered that this other "Video" folder had the recycling bin turned on through the NAS settings for which KODI didn't not have proper access to which was causing the error.  Once I turned off the recycling bin on the NAS side, reinstalled the addon, and restarted KODI, the addon started working properly again.
