Hi,

My questions is if it will be faster streaming user library from a seperate mysql server (running on a nas) instead of keeping it on the raspberry sd card?
My purpose is not to share the library across multiple clients but to make browsing through the library faster and more stable.

Hi, that's the way i'm using my Raspberry Pi, Files are being shared by NFS and Media library through Mysql, and it works quite good :-)

To be honest i'm not really sure which method would be faster and more reliable on Raspi, Mysql vs Standalone, have tried both and i have not noticed a real difference.

But for sure, scanning on Raspi is very very low and boring, if you media library often changes, in my opinion using Mysql is an evidence.
I you set your Raspi to check for new media at boot, that's big lost of time and CPU usage compared to Mysql.

Anyway, i'm still experimenting this, so things may change;

definetly mysql server, 'cools down' the pi. I have noticed an increased speed while browsing through my music after keeping the DB on a separate mysql server.

Which version does XBMC run on on pi? I have Windows Eden Stable on my other machine and I need the DB to be usable by both XBMC's, so the db code version needs to be the same.

hmm..it runs raspbmc RC5, im not sure which version of XBMC is used...

Yes. OpenELEC uses Frodo on the RPi.

Yes. OpenELEC uses Frodo on the RPi.

yes there is no pi support for pre frodo afaik.
