I just registered in the forum to drop a big big "Thank you" guys.
This is my setup, in case someone with a similar issue might find it searching:
Xiaomi Mibox3
Kodi 18.1 Leia (library running on NAS)
NAS Xpenology (MariaDB off course)
Router Asus RT-N66U (Asuswrt Merlin 380.70)
Everything was working fine with my former Internet provider's crappy Technicolor cable router. I switched company and the new one allows a neutral router, so my old Asus is back in bussiness after a firmware update today, but I realized this issue was making Kodi utterly slow. I guess something is wrong in the way this firmware is addressing local dns resolving, but this fix just did the trick; it's working lighting fast now.
